Bio:

Hey, welcome to my profile, I've wanted to make a fangame for a while now; I've been part of this community since 2008 but I've pretty much always been a lurker, very little post history and it's on a different name anyways; if you've streamed IWBTG I've probably lurked your stream before.
Not as skilled as you may think.
I have played a wide array of fangames; my clear list isn't up to date. My favorite genres are Puzzle and Adventure. Don't like Avoidance. If you got any fangame recommendations please let me know.

Even though I have never done a fangame I still like to give my opinion on the games I play, even if they tend to be from a perspective of someone that's not as good or as knowledgeable of how fangames work.

Chileno btw

For: I Wanna Be The Siroonoire
I Wanna be the Siroonoire is a pretty standard fangame, lots of gimmicks that you've already seen on other fangames like refreshers and ice blocks are used on this one, and while it doesn't do anything too interesting with them it's still good and works just fine. One of the gimmicks that I really liked was the one with the colored blocks and locks that actually made you think. Graphics do what they need to do. If it's a level with a wooden background then the spikes and blocks have wooden textures, there's a little nitpick is that there's some random star that falls sometimes that doesn't kill and is just there to have something happening in the background. Not a big fan of that idea. Music isn't also really remarkable, it doesn't reset after you die so that's a plus.

Overall I would just say it's alright, there's nothing really remarkable or memorable about this one except maybe the puzzle stage. There's no story and no ending so the game just ends after a some screens on stage 4. You can probably beat it in around 20-30 minutes

For: I wanna follow it
I wanna follow it is a fangame that set out to make an avoidance for begginers and while that may be debatable the game is still something you should check out.

First of all I would like to point out the length of the game, it's really short consisting of around 5 needles rooms and an avoidance that lasts around 3 mins, the game lasts around 5-10 minutes depending on your skill level.
But it's not about length it's about how you use it.
You see as I said before this game is directed towards beginners so the needle can't be too hard, so it isn't. I would even say it's perfect difficulty for a beginner, not too hard and very forgiving as there's lots of saves.
This game is very pretty, and so is the avoidance even if it's mostly bright orbs. It looks good thanks to the way the maker made them move and the forms they take. The music is also good especially for the Avoidance section since it's so well synced.

Now that all that is said, the question is: did i manage to do everything that I set itself to do?
The answer is sadly no, even if it's super pretty and it's well synced it doesn't take that instead of making easy to evade attacks he jus made them irrelevant. To explain this we will throughly go through each stage of the avoidance.

The avoidance is separated on three parts, you get the intro and the first few attacks, then you go up some platforms and evade some more attacks, finally you have a section with infinite jumps.

If you've read any review before this one, you probably already know what most people think about it, it's slow and I'm confident that nobody has died to it ever. Also it lasts way too long before something interesting happens. You get to avoid some patterns after the boring intro and then some platforms appear that you have to climb so you get higher ground. I would like to point out the little detail that if you are inside the platform before they appear instead of being stuck inside of them you just die, so that's cool.
Second phase has you going up and evading some irrelevant patterns until you get to a platform in which the screen stops going up then you get some interesting attacks, some not really dangerous neon worms coming at you then you go to stage three where you gotta grab some wings and you get infinite jumps
Stage 3 is very pretty and probably the hardest part for a beginner since you have a lot of space to move to and most beginners will probably not see the safe spots. So the difficulty curve for the avoidance checks out imo. But this can be unmotivating for a beginner since the fight is so long.

Overall I would still recommend this for a beginner since the needle is well made for them and the avoidance isn't really too challenging, yes dying at the end can probably be disheartening but seeing as most of the avoidance before hand isn't really that hard then you can get back to the end fast.

For: I wanna be the Guy:Gaiden(本家2)
I wanna be the Guy:Gaiden is not actually a fangame, but in reality it's an actual sequel from the original creator Kayin. So does this game live up to the expectation? Not really.

First of all, as you've probably seen from the tags that I've used this game is unfinished. The game right now consists of 3 stages and a map ala Super Mario World. Each stage is different in its own way but most if not all of them consist of exploring one gimmick. That gimmick being the hook. One of the things that make this game a different experience from the original is the fact that if you push X you will throw a hook on a diagonal direction; pushing up on the keyboard will make it go up and pushing down will make it go straight. The entire game is build around this gimmick so you can't really expect good platforming that doesn't involve it. The first stage really shows the potential this gimmick has making platforming interesting and innovative, enemies react to your hook and sometimes screw you over, there's some traps that you can evade with the hook and going fast is really satisfying. The game also adds the possibility to charge your shot so it deals more damage but the bullet is bigger making it hard to hit certain enemies, there's not that many enemies that you can kill on this game but I think this gimmick is a nice addition. If this game was only the first stage then I would be pleasantly surprised as most of my gripes with IWBTG would have been fixed. But then the rest of the game happened.

Stage 2 is actually awfully designed not doing anything original with the hook and instead is made to frustate the player. Traps in this area are awful aswell. Stage 1 has actually some cool and interesting traps while this area is just your usual "Lol trolled you". I would also like to point out that this area is actually super unpolished as I managed to clip on a block and crash the game not once but 3 times, also the area is filled with glitches and obviously unintended stuff.

Stage 3 is just Memorophilia for IWBTG original, it's also very short and is not really interesting on its own. You go and you fight an upgraded version of the Mike Tyson fight from IWBTG, this time it's Bad Bull and while better than the original fight it's still is very lackluster.

One thing that I would like to point out is that the game is very pretty in terms of the sprites chosen and the music and sound effects fit very well the game. So that's a big plus on my book.

Overall should you play I Wanna Be The Guy:Gaiden? I would suggest to wait until there's a new update. Even if the game hasn't had a major updated in years. (last updated was 2 months ago and it only fixed some of the bugs in the game.) The games about 15-25 minutes long so if you have some spare time give it a go.

For: I wanna be the Animus
Whenever you ask around for Beginner fangames, someone is going to recommend this game. So of course I had to check it out sooner or later. So i went in with good expectations, hoping this would be something that I can recommend to my friends. Oh boy how wrong I was.

I wanna be the Animus is flawed in almost every aspect (except for music which is really really good). Traps are annoying and unoriginal, gimmicks are subpar, Difficulty is all over the place, platforming is unsatisfying for the most part, graphics are lackluster, Save placement is probably one of the worst ones I've seen on a fangame yet and the game feels really disjointed.
I'm usually not nitpicky but this fangame (since it's short and gives a lot to talk about) makes me want to talk about every area in particular, what it does right and what it does wrong. So let's go ahead shall we? This review is gonna be VERY long since i'm going through almost everything in the game, I've played through this game atleast 5 times to finally have a firm opinion on each area but if you want a TLDR then...

TLDR:I would still recommend it to beginners since the last area actually imposes a challenge and the game is somewhat tolerable thanks to the godlike music If you want to have fun with this game PLAY IT ON MEDIUM since save placement on hard is fucking stupid for area 4. There's a ridiculous difficulty spike for the last area. Gimmicks are pretty bad and mostly unexplored except for the Area 3 one (the blocks that heat up when you touch them). There's not that many traps but the ones that are in the game are pretty jarring. Last boss is uninspired garbage and overall a very unsatisfying conclusion. Game is also almost completely disjointed since there's no relation with the last area you where in. (exception to this is the connection between area 2 (water) and 3 (fire)). You can beat this game in around 20 to 30 mins.

You start up the game, you choose a file and a difficulty, usual stuff. Then you're greeted with the first screen of the game, which actually is just the "choose your difficulty" screen. You walk to the right do some jumps that serve no purpose and no challenge, you keep going to the right and you fall down and you're greeted with the first area of the game.
A sidescroller where you can't control The Kid except for jumping and shooting, the kid always goes right never stopping unless you hit a block. Background art is nice, the music is good and the platforming of this area gives the player somewhat of a challenge since you can't actually stop and think before you act. Overall not a bad area with the gimmick he chose (which in my opinion isn't very good to begin with) After you beat it you fall into the second area, which has no connection whatsoever, you just fall and boom you're in the next area.

Second area is the water area where you get infinite jumps and water physics, your objective is to go down. You get some jazzy tunes as music which really help the feel of a comfy water level, however just as I said, this area is comfy and that's because it has no challenge whatsoever unless you impose it to yourself. Platforming here is way too easy and there's not really a gimmick in this area. There's some enemies that you can kill and some that you can't. These are alright but something that I thought was kinda cool is the fact that there's some black fishes that come from the left and since the background chosen for the area is kind of like a gradient from darkblue to cyan they aren't really visible until they get to the middle of the screen and that's somewhat interesting. The ones you have to kill are the usual "I shoot delicious fruit at you and you gotta shoot me like 10 times then I die" nothing really fancy or interesting is done with these enemies. I wanna add as well that these "minibosses" can actually be skipped since the maker didn't add collision to the blocks that they destroy when they die. After beating these (or just skipping them) you get to the next area that is actually the best one in the entire game, these areas actually feel connected as this time you get out of the water to enter the fire stage.

You enter the fire stage and you're greeted with some traps that are way too slow to kill anybody then you advance like four screens of just traps to meet a room that has you evading some spikes that come at you (probably you'll have to jump 1 or 2 gates nothing really hard). Then there's a slugma (pokemon) at the end of the corridor that you can shoot to keep going, or you can just jump over him to get to the next room. (This was probably intended by the maker so i'm not gonna bash on it I just found it interesting.) Then you get to the best gimmick in the game IMO, there's some blocks that when you touch them they start turning red (heating up) and after like 2 seconds they'll kill you if you touch them, very cool gimmick and it's also the only gimmick that gets somewhat explored in the entire game. So you keep going you pass some cool platforming with these blocks, there's some more really slow traps on the way but then you finally reach the end of the area, you climb out of this cave and then you just pop-up into the next area.

This area, oh boy this area is the worst offender in the entire game, first of all if you're playing on hard have fun because I can tell you, I didn't have fun whatsoever on hard. You see this area consist of activating triggers in an order, how do you know the order you ask? You try and try until you get the correct one since the game actually forces you to restart if you mess up. And why am I telling you that hard difficulty is just not fun for this? Well that's because there's NO SAVES on this area. Yes you heard that right, an area in which you have to pick randomly until you get the correct order doesn't have saves. That means whenever you restart you go back to the last area and you have to do 2 whole rooms of area 3 to get to area 4 just to try again. If you play on medium you get TWO saves per room. The area consists of 4 rooms with over 30 triggers. So have fun with that If you plan to play on hard. After doing all that shit you go up some poorly made platforming and you just magically teleport to the next area.

Next area is a platforming challenge where you have to go upwards with the camera following the kid, the thing is that if you haven't died in the last area the camera starts bugging, jumping all around the place until you die so if you're playing on hard you have to deal with that also, this area is also a mess in terms of game design, there's a lot of paths that lead to nowhere and there's not really a challenge in this area. There's some candy.jpgs that don't have anything to do with the area, and you just shoot Buddha just because. (This has probably something to do with the game being named Animus but there's so many meanings to the word that I'm not really sure, just a heads up Animus means Soul in Latin it seems). After that you get on a spaceship that you can actually clip out of and die and you'll have to restart over and you get to the next area which is also the last area of the game.

Last area of the game is space in which the creator just said fuck it and threw everything at the player. You get infinite jumps since it's space. I just want to point out that before this area the hardest thing the player has done is maybe one or two gates and now you're throwing them all hell. In this area you get gates,a diamond, aligns and such. Last part of the area has you activating triggers so that you can access the final boss, this can be tricky for newer players but you don't actually need the allign to beat it. This area is more than challenging and is like 10 times harder than the main game, also the only reason this has a 10 on the difficulty scale for me, if this area didn't exist it would probably have a 2 or 3.

Final boss is really boring, is just some anime girl that throws colored balls at you, it has three attacks each one representing a color and you will know which one is coming since she uses a magical circle before the attack starts. Green Circle that throws balls that follow you around but dissapear after a while; usually throws 3. Red Circle that throws a pattern of balls. And Yellow Circle that throws balls that are directed towards you. She takes some time not because she has a lot of hp but because the maker added way too much time between each shot for her to be vulnerable again. After you beat her you just grab a white ball and reach the end screen which has a sign which tells you that you can return to this screen with W, the Letters "Thank you for playing" and if you move left or right you can teleport to any area of the game.

And that's it, that's the entirety of the game in one long, useless bunch of text that probably nobody is going to read but I feel that someone should show the game for what it actually is.

EDIT: If you've read all of this then first of all I would like to congratulate on reading 1700 words of a fangame. Fixed some typos

For: Draw my Guy FGM Edition
Draw my Guy is a short fangame with a really interesting gimmick, you can draw stuff in the game; from blocks to enemies to even the kid himself you can draw pretty much anything on this fangame. The problem is right there, some stuff you draw isn't really relevant and the game doesn't go far enough or is long enough to allow you to express something great. For example you get to draw a switch for blocks to pop up and some lanterns; both of which are barely used in the game. I believe Lanterns are just in two areas while there are only 1-2 switches, drawing these kind of feels underwhelming.

Now with my major gripe with the game is the drawing engine the game has, it's very limited only to 16 colors, 4 sizes for the pen and a choice between square or circular pencil. You can't zoom so you can't really make detailled stuff and you can activate grid so you can make pixel art. Also there's no way to see the hitbox on the things you draw so that can be problematic on the long run seeing as you can only edit stuff if you are in an specific place.

Music choice is great and platforming and game design is overall interesting and somewhat fun, even if some people don't like the later parts of the game for being obnoxious, in my opinion they're not really hard nor annoying. Just challenging enough to get you to keep playing just so you can get to the next drawing prompt, also the game is very short, only 1 boss and 18 drawing prompts, you can probably beat the game in 30 minutes if you're fast drawing (which most of us aren't) so it will probably take you around 1 and a half hours. Aside from the drawing gimmick most of them are the usual you'll see in most fangames, refreshers, gravity swappers and breakable blocks.

Overall I would say that this a fun and overall interesting experience but it feels just like a demo, not going deep enough for it to feel satisfying, I would still recommend it; especially if you are a streamer with somewhat of a following, as this game can be pretty hilarous with the right people.
