Pointillism was a wonderfully unique and well presented dotkid needle game. I really enjoyed the art gallery theme, which was brought to life with the great visual and music choices. The control over which levels you choose to play, along with the wide range of variety and creativity between each level were definitely among its strongest points. There were also some much appreciated quality of life features, such as per-level progress saving, and saves that darken after used, even accounting for skips. The customization options that you can purchase are also a nice touch, though I personally didn't get much use out of them.
One decision I did find a bit strange was the difficulty and level pacing. Although you do have some control over which levels you want to play, needing to clear 26 of them before accessing the Tower area eventually forces you to beat some of the most challenging stages in the entire game. To me, this made gaining access to the Tower feel like the climax of the game. After that, you unlock mostly far easier levels, and the gimmick aspect and visual quirks are completely gone until you reach the final 4. This is probably more relevant to Any% than 100%, but I still feel it would have been better paced with some of the more difficult stages and gimmicks mixed into the 2nd half of the game.
With this being my first venture into a game of this difficulty level, there were definitely plenty of points where the enjoyment faded after becoming stuck on a save for too long. Even so, my overall experience was positive, and I'm glad I saw it through to the end. Rating based on Any%

Others have already done a fine job describing the gameplay and possible meanings behind it all, I don't have much to add there. Even if there was no deeper meaning to it, the mechanics, visuals, and music came together to create an effectively uneasy atmosphere and a unique experience that was intriguing and enjoyable. Wish it was much longer.

Was hoping for some cool Yume Nikki/2kki themed areas. There was only one, and I didn't care much for the design or bgm choice. Pretty standard, easy needle and basic traps, followed by a simple boss fight. Then the second stage drops the Yume Nikki theme and the traps, just a few short needle screens and another boss. The end credits felt about as long as the actual gameplay. Pretty disappointed because I think dream worlds could have been a fun angle.

I don't want to write an individual rating on each game's page since they're each just one short screen, so I'll review the series as a whole here.
Games 001 - 009 are all easy needle, and choosing Hard instead of Medium adds more spikes. The exception is game 003, which has 4 mostly empty rooms that you walk between and shoot buttons until the warp is accessible. It's also the only game with unique music.
Game 010 is a boss fight, and choosing a higher difficulty makes the enemies shoot at a faster speed. 011 - 019 are back to needle but add Very Hard and Impossible options, again making the jumps more challenging with additional spikes. 020 is the same as 010 with the attacks slightly altered. 021 and 022 are apparently lost forever, so I didn't get to try those.
I had 2 big issues with the series: The fact that it wasn't packaged as a single game, and the music. Beyond using Restart Rock for every game, games 011 - 019 and 009 go completely silent after you die once. The gameplay itself honestly wasn't that bad. It did feature a lot of generic jumps, but the design was okay, and it was nice having the difficulty options add spikes instead of removing saves. The bosses were nothing special, but they were fairly challenging on Impossible.
Overall, I did enjoy them at times, but I don't really think I'd recommend anyone go out of their way to play them. If it was all packaged in a single .exe, it would at least feel more like a complete experience, but they don't hold up well as standalone games. Rating based on games 001 - 020 with hardest difficulty for each.
