Playing Phonotransmitter is one of those times I go far beyond my comfort range in difficulty in the hope the enjoyment would pay off, and I can confidently say it absolutely did. This is probably one of the most creative needle games out there and manages to accomplish such with fairly standard mechanics.

First off, pretty much every single jump in this game is something I don't think I've done before. They're all unique and interesting, and even when I stumbled across a segment I didn't like as much it's still appreciated for being different. It seems incredibly difficult to make a game this unique without putting in some sort of new gimmick, but Chatran managed to accomplish this feat for three whole stages of completely standard stuff. The final stage of course does add a classic gimmick into play, that being the triple jump, but still manages to use it in completely fresh ways that also incorporate the previous stages as well. As far as difficulty balance goes, the randomized nature of the game makes it hard to judge, but I would say Stage Three felt a lot higher than the rest due to the water grabs being pretty awkward to pull off.

Another thing that makes this game pretty memorable is the amount of visual aesthetics put into this. Not only do the stages look neat, but the pause menu causes the screen to undergo a cool animation, the game over sequence looks wonderful, and even the warp causes a small animation before traversing to the next screen. Add on to this a great atmospheric soundtrack that works with the foggy feel to the game as well as an incredibly pretty credits sequence and you get one of the best-looking needle games out there.

Overall I definitely have to give this one a firm recommendation, and also say this is definitely a maker worth keeping an eye on.

A game with very good needle design. The NPCs and the big map added more fun to the game. However, many timing spots are hard to pass when met for the first time and that can be a bit annoying. All in all, it's a great needle game. Strongly recommended.

Very solid needle with simple gimmicks. Criminally underplayed.

For: I wanna be the Boshy
I beat Boshy on 'Totally Average Mode' earlier today, and I just thought that I'd drop a review for Boshy with a modern perspective.
I originally played Boshy in 2017, but I gave up because I couldn't get past Mario on 'Hard-On Mode'. After returning 5 years later (with more skill and patience), I decided to beat Boshy to close unfinished business, and because I have lots of free time in some of my classes.

First off, I do think that a lot of people don't understand the whole premise of Boshy. Boshy was originally made to be a rage game, but a lot of people either don't know that or just forget about that. Boshy is designed to piss you off through bad design, such as having unusual hitboxes, unfair deaths, and random bullshit. That's why there's so many negative reviews - a lot of people forget that Boshy is meant to be a rage game.

Anyways, I'll first start off by discussing the visuals. Production quality is very high in Boshy, and it doesn't look at all like the average lazy fan game. All of the levels and bosses (which are from other games) each got an upgrade when it comes to aesthetics, which makes a lot of the content from older games look like it's brand new. There's also lots of video effects, such as fire effects, energy effects, and fog. Not a lot of fan games have this kind of production quality. I Wanna Kill The Guy comes close, as well as I Wanna Kill The Kamilia 3, but they just don't have the amount of detail and sheer quantity of production quality as Boshy does.
However, this does cause a lot of lag for lower-end PCs due to the amount of processing that has to be done, and of course you can't turn it off. If you have a shitty computer, then this game is not for you.

As for gameplay, the controls are really good. Boshy moves very smoothly, and the controls are very easy to use. The physics are especially amazing for boss fights.
A lot of people don't like Boshy's level design; it does feel very archaic at times with random precise jumps. Sometimes the levels are very easy, and then suddenly you have to do a bunch of precise jumps without checkpoints. However, like I said, Boshy is meant to be a rage game which is why the level design is so archaic.

However, there are times when the design is just straight up bullshit, even for a rage game. In the outer space section in World 6, you have to shoot down a bunch of enemies and collect power-ups. However, the game doesn't give any instructions on what you're supposed to do. I wasn't even aware that I could use power-ups in the space section, and I only found out after watching a video because I kept on getting swarmed by enemies and there was nothing I could do. However, that is nowhere near as bad as my next topic.

In some of Boshy's fights, there is a lot of random bullshit in the boss fights. And I don't mean that sometimes the attacks are hard to dodge - sometimes, it's legit impossible to dodge an attack. The final boss is the best example of this. During the final boss, the boss will occasionally teleport right on top of you and there's literally nothing you can do because its hitbox is huge. In the final boss' second phase, he summons a bunch of green balls and they sometimes appear in a way where there's nothing you can do. The frustrating thing is that the random bullshit can easily be fixed with simple bounds or changes to the hitboxes, while still keeping the whole surprise aspect. The attacks I listed are really fun, but only if you aren't a victim to random bullshit. It is also extremely demoralizing to get really far and die, only to have your progress getting back to where you were become hindered by a bunch of random bullshit. This is the biggest reason why I didn't give a higher score.

Anyways, some other things that make Boshy good are customizability (there's lots of characters you can play as), replayability (the characters you unlock from beating the game are pretty much NG+), and secrets that you can try to get. Also, Boshy is gonna take a long time to beat. It took me over 100 hours to beat it, and over 20 hours was on the final boss alone. The final boss has 4 different phases, and the final phases can take 100s of attempts to learn.

TL;DR: If you're up for a challenge in both skill and patience, then Boshy is for you; however, if you don't have much patience for difficult games or random bullshit, then Boshy is not for you.

This is a somewhat decent game that has 2 screens of simple but varied platforming followed by an avoidance that's also pretty alright. I wasn't too much of a fan of how the lines went inward on the fourth time, but besides that everything else was mostly simple enough to first try. The song of course is admittedly pretty good for an avoidance, it also makes the clear screen song pretty funny in comparison.

Would recommend if you like Caramelldansen.
