Splatter Fate is another parody game made by the prolific yet mysterious meme-master himself, Kela. Almost all of Kela's games are parodies of various trendy fangames such as Kamilia 3, Crimson, Discord Makers, Noesis, etc., and as far as I can see, Kela is the only maker of such parody games aside from Yep. Many of Kela's later parodies such as "say NO to Literature" and Kelanzana were made after upticks the original game's popularity (after Bakudanchan's first clear of Melanzana and Bootstrap's Noesis speedrun at Fangame Marathon/ clears of Wolfiexe et al. in the months preceding, respectively) and Splatter Fate fits this pattern (it was released after several clears of Scattered Faith in the months preceding).
The game difficulty screen and room visuals are mostly the same as the ones in Kelanzana. However, there is much more sprite variety (every attack has its own visuals now) and now you're fighting the Touhou character that is featured in Splatter Faith, a Touhou-themed parody of Splatterhouse! [http://3-me.net/flashdir/spfaith/]. This character and the game title are the full extent of the Splatter Faith references though. In terms of gameplay, it is true to its predecessor, with a wide selection of attacks smuggled in from various hard avoidances, all in one place for you to practice your reading with. The ones I identified are at the bottom of this review. The practice room lets you play an infinite version of every attack and tracks your highscore on each, which makes for a fun experience which no other game I know of also offers.
All of this, while very nice, would not necessarily grab my attention, but the game also holds the dubious distinction of being one of the hardest fangames by a western maker at the time of its release. Very unusual for a parody. Despite this, the game's balance is actually decent.The game is difficult the entire way through, and most of the attacks are not that far apart in difficulty. Attacks 1, 2, and 4 are my favorites. All of the attacks are luck-based with the possible exception of attack 5, but a couple of attacks in particular have very serious balance issues. Attack 6 is so hard to dodge in the center as intended that it only makes sense to hug the wall and read only one side of the attack, hoping the other side doesn't aim at you. This makes the attack mostly luck. Attack 10 is so hard (much harder than every other attack) that it's pretty luckbased too. So clearing the game is about getting decent enough at the other attacks so that you can grind out luck on attack 6 and some luck on attack 10 too.
There aren't many games to choose from anymore at this level of difficulty at the moment, so you have to take what you can get.

This is a highly admirable and bold effort to preserve fangaming history. I salute you.
I hope others follow your example and release their games as well, even if they're embarrassed by the quality of their games, because they're still an important part of fangaming.
