This game is fantastic except for one save that is way over the top in terms of difficulty in my opinion.
Definitely recommended.

Very hard gimmicky needle with relatively long saves and precise jumps, definitely worth playing if you can enjoy such difficulty

I Wanna Stop Crying Myself To Sleep is one of the most iconic and in a lot of ways infamous needle games out there, and the reasoning why became clear to me pretty quickly in my playthrough. For one the theming in this game is incredibly strong, it's pretty clearly a game about grief and the way the stages embody each stage of grief is in many places very powerful and I found myself especially towards the end of the game resonating quite a bit with this, the fourth stage is just so dreary and the needle itself feels very constricted, whereas the final stage feels so much more open, still grounded in reality but it has the kind of vibe that just rubs off on me a bit. I also found the final needle screen to be extremely unnerving, something about it just got to me. I focused on the 2nd half when it comes to aesthetics but really the whole game is great, special shoutout to stage 2 song which I felt really set the tone of that stage well.

The platforming itself is mostly really good! It's not perfect, there's two saves I took issue with, one in stage 3 which introduces the water that rises you, I just felt like it was weak, for one the gimmick feels inconsistent in a lot of situations which is a problem the rest of the stage avoids but you really feel it in this save even when it comes to the first jump, plus the jumps just felt awkward in a lot of places and not nearly as good to pull off as other stuff in the stage. The other save was a random one in save 4 I found kinda uncomfortable to play, it's the 2nd save on the 3rd to last "real" screen. Besides that though, I really enjoyed how each stage felt like it had it's own thing going on, it made the game feel extremely varied and fresh, even just the basic jumps feel different from stage to stage. The game's use of triggers is pretty nice in my opinion, often using them to force interesting movements, and the gimmicks, while minimal, were pretty solid and complimented the needle well in most places. The game's difficulty is definitely a bit high and the jumps themselves can be quite intricate, but generally it feels good to play and rewarding to get good at. I think this is one of those games where every save just feels satisfying to complete.

Cry is a fantastic needle game, it definitely has it's sets of flaws but I think considering what the game sets out to do, it succeeds at it's goals quite well. It's definitely something that will stick with me both for the gameplay and non-gameplay elements, which is a pretty good indicator of quality. I would recommend it if you can look past the elephant in the room, there's a lot to like about the game itself.

A masterpiece. The needle in this game is so smooth, and has been a huge inspiration for my needle style

Come to think of it, this game has made me who I am
I just felt things with the overall mood of the game, tilesets and all that. This game is pure excellence. This game is the reason why I chose to do the things that I did, and I don't think that even though some saves made me mald, it was still an enlightening experience. Truly the 10/10 game that I needed.

Cry is a game that mixes slight precision with long saves and flow, creating the most unique standard needle experience that you will ever see. It's just so perfect, every single save is crafted meticulously with moving any single spike ruining it. I don't think a single game will be better than this to me.

Here is a quick overview of the stages and how i felt about them.

Stage 1 - downwards tower, with typical jtool objects that are used. It's mostly a skillcheck, and just something to show you how good the game is going to get. It's already really fun.

Stage 2 - I guess you can call this hell? but its not hell, but its a fun stage. Trigger needle, but every trigger forces a cool movement onto you, and it flows incredibly nicely if you "speedrun" it.

Stage 3 - The gimmick stage that apparently ruined it all? nah. not buying that, this stage was so much fun, not as good as stage 2, but better than stage 1 imo. The momentum water and align refreshers can create some interesting movements that you can force upon the player, and it's fun learning it.

Stage 4 - The BEST needle I have EVER played. There is no exception. It flowed incredibly, each movement was intricate and calculated. Despite malding on the first save, I had an extreme amount of fun here. This is Cheyri at his best.

Stage 5 - An upwards tower, i guess to contrast with the downwards tower. Each save here is lengthy, and feels like regular needle, and just feels like the climax of the whole game. The game shows its true difficulty here, with many of the saves taking me 50 minutes or more, compared to the 20 to 30 average in other stages.

In my personal opinion, the best stages from best to not the best (theyre all really goooood) are 4,5,2,3,1

EDIT:
on my third replay, I was breezing through saves like nothing, but i couldn't help but see a shadow of myself, a person who was young, still learning, and wanting to find satisfaction in skill. I remembered the struggle that I went through to clear stage 1, stage 2, stage 4, and stage 5. Everything is coming back to me now. Thank you Chyeri. I love you.
I wish i could give this game an 11/10.
