Creator's Comments:

Natsu [Creator]
This is a faithful remaster of the original I Wanna Be The Guy, aiming to balance the spirit of the original game with the desire for consistent physics like the fangames that came after while fixing some of the jank.

This was created using Yuuutu engine in Game Maker 8.2, and has been prepatched with gm8x_fix (https://github.com/skyfloogle/gm8x_fix). The source code has been included (GM 8.2).

Rating based on Hard mode with all secrets.

I Wanna Be the Guy Remastered does exactly what the title says it does; it takes the classic game that we all know and love, and attempts to bring it to modern standards. And to be honest, it does its job well. Gone are the original, garbage controls, instead being made in the much better engine provided by ゆううつ. Gone are all the glitches from which the original game suffered, as the game has received a huge polishing from the remaster team. The game still retains all the charm it had all the way since 2007, while being much more playable by modern standards—like, a lot more. And that's not even mentioning all the other details and easter eggs that they also added (which I won't spoil, go find them out for yourself).
However, with all of that, it still takes a lot of problems as well. The original game wasn't perfect, but it was still fun in theory, if not for being incredibly broken. This game, however, instead of fixing these imperfections, chooses to leave them in. A couple of the worst examples include the secret in the Metroid area, as well as Devil Dragon. I imagine it would have been really tough to fix some of these flaws, while still staying true to the source material, but that still doesn't excuse the impact that they had on my enjoyment of the game, which honestly isn't enough to ruin it, but it still damages the experience overall and makes the design feel really outdated (although what else would you expect from something originally from all the way back in 2007).

My final verdict is that if you don't want to play I Wanna Be the Guy, don't play this. If you do, however, absolutely play this, it is by far the best way to enjoy the game.
