Cool game, I'm always a fan of giving the player additional abilities. I would love to see a full-sized adventure game with this as the primary mechanic, good stuff.

Pretty enjoyable game with a really cool gimmick involving spells, at times it can be a little overwhelming but I think that's part of the appeal. Understanding the saves and executing them is fun even if some moments are wonky and I'm really unsure what the intended solution to the final save was :P

Interesting Gimmick Needle game created for the First Game Jam in which the Kid collects spells he can use by pressing Z to pause and then enter an arrow key code for the one he wishes to uses.
It is an interesting Gimmick, and even allows for some variation on how you do saves later on once you have more. I did feel like part of it was pretty unintuitive however, while the leap was Up Up Up, the side Dash was Down Down L/R, this difference matters quite a lot when making a moveset like this because the second feels completely unnatural, it should just be all Left or Right. Another aspect that makes the game fall short for me is the difficulty, it's actually pretty hard for something from the Game Jam, even outside of the gimmick usage. There's an awkward vine jump you have to do at one point, there's a few segments where the leap ability is used far too many times under a spike, and the final two saves entirely were just extremely exhausting to play.
I think it's an interesting game for something made with a week time constraint, but I wish it was far much easier to allow for more experimentation with different spells, and so others could play it more. I'd recommend it if you can handle some difficulty.

I'm still wondering how I didn't see it or even never heard of it before.
Needlecaster is a cool short needle game including spells you can use to either modify how things work or mess with movements. It's really cool and it has a pretty good implementation, but if like me you are shit at multitasking then using a spell can become hell, especially near the end where you have multiple ones to remember. Still a very enjoyable game.

Needlecaster is a gimmick needle game made by Verve in about 24 hours for the first I Wanna Game Jam. It features a gimmick where pressing the shoot button will prompt you to cast a spell. Inputting 3 directions will cause the player to cast spells that help them get through the game. The further you go, the more spells you unlock,
At the start this gimmick is very fun, but it quickly becomes a sort of situation where there are too many spells to keep track of. There are multiple solutions to solving some screens, but some of those solutions are much harder to execute than others. While each screen did something unique, by the end it became too much for me to handle and I unfortunately got upset at something I otherwise would recommend wholeheartedly. Too many cooks in the kitchen with this gimmick.
