When it comes to just making pure fun, this game is pretty up there, it uses it's gimmicks very well and it's so smooth I honestly don't even think it gets stale ever, it's just very consistently fun. There's nothing in this game that I think is all that crazy, the gimmicks are very cool and well used but it's all quite grounded, which isn't even necessarily a bad thing. VoVoVo is extremely cohesive throughout and all in all, is a fantastic game. Highly recommended.

While this game has lots of cool ideas and sections, the overall execution is very inconvenient to the player. Lots of sections which feel like time wasters, especially in the town section where restarting the town state is about as inconvenient as it gets. The time travel stuff is super cool although the puzzles involving it could feel a bit tedious at times, although it's fun to mess with. I'd say my favorite part of the game is the first screen, especially with the secret. It's a very cool idea with pretty good execution. The final stage is alright, I think the 500m dig section is cool and the boss is...alright I guess. All in all while the game is unique, it's ultimately just not my thing.

If you, just for a moment, isolate Escape Into My Mind as just, a gaming experience, then what you have is still easily worthy of the praise it gets. The game is entertaining, weird, creative, and fun. The minor gripes I had with Chungo's Gauntlet practically don't exist in this game, the bosses especially feel like a massive step up, they are all so interesting and fun. The physics engine is particularly impressive, the game is made in Unity and you can definitely tell, but the level design takes the measures to make sure the game feels natural in spite of this.
Now, as for what the game is about, I don't really have the best media literacy in the world, and even if I did I don't think it's my place to ramble about what the game means and all the symbolism, but at the bare minimum what I gathered is the game is about the personal struggle with identity and how others perceive you, a struggle which is deeply relatable for many people including myself. There's lots of small things, little details, which are all so deliberate and add onto the narrative that even if you aren't focusing on it, it's clear it exists. It's just a very well made experience, it shows that even when it feels like fangames or just games in general are disposable in the same way food is, that they are just something to be consumed and enjoyed in the moment, there are people who go out of their way to present what they have in a way that it will stick with you beyond the few hours it may last, and in this regard I believe Jane to be a culinary artist.
