This is from the perspective of someone who has never played a fangame before this one, which I guess is valuable since this is one of the first fangames people think of when you say "Beginner Fangames" apparently.
On medium difficulty, this was a decent introduction to fangames I think. It introduces a few common gimmicks like infinite jump and vines, and for the most part has a pretty steady difficulty curve.
It's certainly not a perfect beginner fangame though, as there's quite a few issues with the game. While I did say that the difficulty curve is pretty steady, there's a few notable difficulty spikes, especially Reveal Spoiler , which was the result of around 1/8th of my deaths when playing through the fangame. The entirety of the fourth area is designed really poorly as well in my opinion, being trial and error guessing for the most part besides the vine sections, which also don't really teach you how they work before incorporating them into tricky platforming sections. The space area was pretty fun for the most part, however there was some questionable design choices in it, like Reveal Spoiler . The final boss was also extremely underwhelming and easy, only taking me 3 attempts to beat.
By far the biggest issue this fangame has however is save placement, specifically on hard mode. The fourth area on hard mode, which is mostly trial and error remember, has absolutely no saves in the entirety of it. Even worse, there is a glitch in the fifth area with the camera that happens if you did not die in the fourth area, which is guaranteed to happen on hard mode due to the fourth area having no saves.
TL;DR: It's good for beginners as long as you pick medium, but multiple questionable design choices and awful gameplay when you pick hard mode or harder makes me not able to give it a positive rating.
Edit (8/23/20): I came back to this fangame and beat it again for the 1 year anniversary of me clearing it. Haven't really changed my mind on anything, except that the miniboss that was giving me so much trouble my first attempt was actually extremely easy.

An uneven difficulty curve and a weird saves placement harm an otherwise decent attempt at recreating a dreamlike adventure. Featuring a very good soundtrack and a great visual variety of designs, Animus wouldn't necessarily be my recommendation for a beginner, but as the follow-up of many beginner fangames. Of course, you could take it if you're feeling bold, as the gimmicks will be challenging (and not always boring) and the traps will catch you completely off guard. I hate trap games, so this harms my experience, but I would certainly recommend this as it is a project that shows commitment behind.

I liked it BUT I don't liked the savepoint placements in Hard.
Compared with Medium are the saves unbalanced. 1 entire level has for examble NO Savepoints. At that point I replayed it on Medium and it was more enjoyable^^
There was to many savepoints in Medium but better than unbalanced once in Hard.
That was my first impression on hard.
But this thing does not change the Rating that I choose.
This was a solid game. I liked it and it's worth playing :)
