Really fun! Played it as my second fangame, and it makes me really excited to try more. Great for learning the basics of needle games. Thank you for making this :)

In my now 7 years of playing fangames, I have somehow completely avoided getting the true end of NANG. Imagine that. When I first got the bad ending of this game back in 2017, I legitimately hated it. I felt the game was designed to make me as annoyed as possible and it succeeded. I gave up on trying to achieve true end at that point because I felt I wasn’t having fun anymore nor was I skilled enough to do so. 2-3 years later, I saw Stonk playing a NANG room randomizer mod, and I decided to give it another shot. I was actually surprised at how much more fun I found the experience, and I even managed to get the confused ending. Sadly, the mod breaks when doing the hard mode stages, and so my journey once again came to a close. Yesterday, I got a sudden urge to fully clear NANG for whatever reason, and I have to say, NANG is a good game!!!

The bite sized room format allows every area to feel like a series of challenges that properly explore the theme of the stage, with a few set pieces that stand out above the others. With the length of each stage though, if you aren’t already a good player going into NANG, you may feel like they drag on too long or become annoying. The game feels very much like it was designed to be speedran even discarding the ranking you get upon finishing a stage. It’s a game that is more enjoyable on replays than on the initial playthrough, at least for me.

The gimmicks and needle are simple by today’s standards but they somehow manage to be incredibly memorable. I remember so many of the rooms in the game just from someone briefly describing them to me. It feels like a breakthrough in creativity for the genre and yet it still holds up today because it’s simplicity is its biggest strength.

As for the difficulty curve, it’s super smooth and gradual. It peaks in stage 10 and then the hard mode stages feel more like a victory lap as opposed to a proper hard mode. When I started NANG, I wondered to myself why no game other than Not Another Falling Game had attempted the format of this game, and the answer is that it requires a LOT of skill to make something like this interesting. If there’s one thing my new playthrough put in perspective, it’s how skilled of a designer Geezer actually is. I took for granted the design of this game when I first played it, and now that I’m better I see the light. NANG won me over. That’s the biggest praise I can give it.
