I want to defend this game. Yes, it's an ugly and infuriating mess. However, I believe that is the intended effect and there is a lot more to it than meets the eye. It's an arcane tomb protected by chaos, designed to keep you out. I do think the creator took the idea too far, assuming players would have the patience to find its bizarre loopholes without any production value to lean on. But the scope and underlying structure are kind of incredible and I respect it for that. What it seems to lack in common sense it makes up for in vision. I'm not saying you should play it. It is painful. But I honestly appreciate it. So there.

Underneath the very very very bare bones exterior, there's something truly profound about Pharaoh, it's a game that so clearly has goals and ambitions but expresses them in such an abrasive, awkward, and unfriendly way. At first it seems like pure trash but I think after a while and getting a feel for how the game operates and how it's underlying logic works, it's a lot easier to appreciate what it's going for, it's very much something that can only exist in the medium of fangames and I think it's a wonderful look into a side of fangames that's often overlooked. At the bare minimum the absurdist nature of it is extremely entertaining, even if it's sometimes a little too stupid for my tastes.

Probably the worst production value humanly possible ruins what otherwise could have been a good game from a concept point of view. Hidden blocks, fake blocks, stupid booby traps, retarded level design, and trash bosses. It's a shit salad with repeating guy rock and Wily music.
When you stomach past the first 2 areas which are an abomination, the real game starts. You have to explore an area looking for secret passages and hidden doors to collect gems to open the door to the end. The concept is somewhat cool, but design and production cripple the game.
