This is a 30 floor game, with just one save per screen. As such, the difficulties - Medium, Hard, and Very Hard - do not alter the save placement, but rather the needle design itself. My ratings are based on playing Very Hard, though Hard is the creator's recommended difficulty.

Do not play this game on Very Hard. It acts as an excellent argument against fangames including multiple distinct difficulty modes, because all Very Hard does is buff the existing platforming in obnoxious ways without any consideration for how these buffs impact the overall flow of a save. More specifically, it features drop gates, T-bones, sideways gates, and 16px gaps strewn haphazardly across minute-long saves, resulting in many floors becoming what I can only describe as a "choke nightmare." At the same time, the buffing isn't even really that consistent, so there were a few floors I beat on my first try despite spending 10-15 minutes on the previous one...

Hard mode seems to be a pretty smooth experience, so just play that if you're interested in this game. I assume the other reviews on here are based on Hard mode.

The boss at the end is based on SaGa Frontier and is trivial if you know Japanese, as it announces each attack in advance at the top of the screen. If you don't know Japanese, I guess you should learn it.

Rating based on Hard mode.

A fangame with 3 stages, each with 10 screens, and finally a boss at the end of the game.
The first stage is easily the low point of the game, the grid is entirely 32 pixel, and the design just feels kind of unfun.
However, after that, the next stage makes up for that. It switches the grid, and even adds in minispikes into the mix midway through. The design is more fun overall, since the grid is less limited.
And then comes the third stage, featuring a tileset which changes color upon each reset, which looks really cool sometimes, and others it just looks really ugly. The design itself is about as good as stage 2, however there were some parts which were kind of frustrating. Nevertheless, there is still fun to be had.

And then comes the boss, Genocide Heart.

Genocide Heart is a boss split up into 5 phases, each with their own attacks, before combining them all into one final phase. The phases are as follows:
-Snow phase, which mainly is built around projectiles the boss shoots out, and can blow all in a direction at any given time,
-Desert phase, where the attacks mainly come from the side, so you'll have to dodge as they come from there, although controls sometimes get reversed,
-Ground phase, which is probably the worst of the five, since most attacks are easy to die to if you are unprepared, and actually getting prepared is the annoying part,
-Water phase, where the attacks mostly come from above and have visual tells so you know they are coming,
-Cathedral phase, definitely the easiest of the bunch, the random(360) attack is the only one that can kill you by itself.
The boss chooses between these 5 phases at random, and the way to damage it is that after 2 attacks, spikes will spawn from the ceiling, which you use to attack it. During the final phase, it uses 4 attacks before spikes spawn, though, adding to the tension that the fight makes you feel.
The fight has a lot of unfair moments throughout, however it is still incredibly fun to play through, no matter how much of a grind it becomes. People say Genocide Heart isn't the reason you play the game, however I would highly argue the opposite, it is by far the high point of the game, despite its shortcomings.

Whether you're playing for the needle or for the boss, this game will guarantee you a good time. Recommended.

The needle feels really good, though I can't really put my finger on it. It consists of single screen saves that balance well between being never boring and never grindy.

The boss is kind of tedious but its not really the reason to play the game, though its at least creative.

One of the best needle games I have played in a LONG time. Not only is it really fun to play, but it looks just as good, if not better. Final boss in my opinion is very insta gibby but it doesn't take away from the needle in anyway. If you like needle, you HAVE to play this. So underrated.
