I mean, this game's title literally says it all: "Needle and barrage bullet hell game".
2 screens of Needle followed by Avoidance with dothitbox made in 2012, and kind of forgotten by everyone despite being made by the author of 'I wanna conquer the blow game' series.
Initially beaten this game in 15 minutes back in 2022, and now it took me almost 1 hour in 2025. This is why my ratings have changed from 46 ; 6.5 up until 54 ; 4.7.
Needle in this game is fine. You do not have any music, you have kind of interesting tileset and jumps to utilize spikes in a bit of a clever way (you can recognize authors style though), especially, with the usage of small spikes. The only a bit annoying save is the last one which has very awkward final jump. But I kind of felt that I liked needle more in the 2nd playthrough than in the 1st one. It is not necessarily excellent, but it is also not necessarily generic in the classic sense.
And then there is avoidance, which is actually pretty cool... until you get until pre-finale. You have infinite jump (which is not indicated anywhere) and dothitbox, which help a lot to dodge the situations. It is overall not very hard, however, pre-finale has horizontal bullets which make everything so much more cluttered, along with the RNG and the fact you have to dodge the weird pattern quite several times. It does not help that in the very end finale goes immediately after so you cannot be prepared. And what is worth - it is like the beginning attack, which in itself is not very pleasant.
If you get stuck, then this will feel very claustrophobic, and replaying everything else gets extremely repetitive since the difficulty is so much lower.
It is really shame, because I do like the concept of this avoidance. It is not generic, especially, for 2012 avoidance. And if you can beat this in a reasonable time, then it feels quite fun. But as soon as you get stuck, it is really hard to enjoy this avoidance.
I did manage to first try finale on my 2nd playthrough, but my god it is stressful. This avoidance does require skill in order to beat it, even if everything else by miles easier.
Author mentions in the Readme that they would like to update the game, but it never happened. So this is what we have. Unfortunately it does not hold up well, and this time I do not feel good on giving this game the same rating I was intending to give back in 2022.
Would not recommend.
