Lengthy needle game based around gimmicky jump refreshers. I'll start with the positives here. I have to admire the creativity behind the design, especially in the later stages where there's a ton of gimmicks at once. The production is high quality as usual from piece, and the environments all work. I did thoroughly enjoy stages 1, 2, 5, and 6 aside from maybe a couple of annoying segments. The spike switch refreshers are a really cool idea and I enjoyed how they were used. Definitely high objective quality here.

However, I'm not really the biggest fan of jump refreshers, so this fell flat for me in a lot of places. Stages 3 and 4 had a lot of saves where I felt my hands getting confused, especially one save in stage 4 where you have to go from a slow-motion refresher into a +speed one. On that note, I felt like the slow-mo refreshers were just not used well at all aside from the final stage. They messed with my comprehension of things more than they helped with navigating the more precise segments. Also I feel like there were waaaaaaay too many choke final jumps (again especially in stages 3 and 4), too many of which I died to. Also the long refresher tower at the end of stage 4 physically hurt me, so that was fun.

Overall, I'd say that if you like jump refreshers you'll enjoy this, but it was kind of a slog as someone who doesn't.

Rating based on the normal difficulty.

Very solid design overall, blending needle platforming with original gimmicks to create a unique experience that doesn't require unreasonable levels of precision from the player. I do feel like there are some parts here and there where the needle itself is pushed too hard and takes some focus off of the gimmicks themselves, but these instances would probably be alleviated by playing the easy version. Otherwise my complaints are mostly subjective (I don't like the refreshers that alter the Kid's speed, mostly) so I won't bother going into them.

Piece also managed to avoid the single biggest problem with JR sequences, which is that they tend to require overly precise rejumps in order to maintain an optimal height for whatever jump is up next. Given how many JR sequences there are in this game, that's no mean feat, and it goes a long way toward ensuring that the difficulty remains focused around the "concept" of any given sequence and not just performing frame perfect rejumps forever.

Overall, good stuff, and I ended up enjoying it a lot more than Jungle Adventure (which I have stalled on the last stage lol). Even if you weren't a fan of that game it's worth giving this one a try.

The different jump refreshers was a great idea, but the platforming was boring ResidentSheeper. The platforming is just simple needle with no surprising jumps, the only difference being that there are jump refreshers scattered everywhere. The problem with this simplicity is that it feels half-assed as if the needle was made after deciding "oh i guess i'll use these jump refreshers for this save and i'll think about what spikes to put there when i get to it". The areas mostly feel 'closed', which is the opposite of what jump refresher needle should be like.

EDIT: after world 3 the quality improved a lot since the later jump refreshers give an interesting puzzle element. the first two worlds are still trash tho

Just a fantastic needle game in pretty much every way. This is the jump refresher version of the Jungle Adventure and it's vine gimmick. The game's production has great visuals and good music from start to finish. The gimmicks are interesting and are masterfully woven into great level designs that challenge you to use each of the mechanics as they get introduced. This is not an easy game, but it's pretty fair.
