I wanna be the Mars
First of all, I wanna be the Mars is a great homage of Yuri's planet series. The first stage is a reference from I wanna be the Venus, which gives the player exact same feeling of Venus and also introduces some of generic and hard jumps like Venus, which is already a great start. (The only difference between the original is the save and some of the effects.)
The last part of first stage is a chase sequence, which may be inspired by I wanna be the Saturn. (Unlike Saturn, this part is relatively easy compared to the previous part of the stage.) Also, halfway through the chase sequence, the tileset changes to the next part of the stage, which is a great small detail.
After that, there is an exact same screen from I wanna be the Mercury, and the second stage is 200% reference of Mercury.
The game introduce some creative and harder jumps like Mercury, and the difficulty becomes gradually higher towards the end. And then, there is a final screen from Venus, which being the perfect homage and transition effect with Venus and this game. After you pass this, the gravity changes and you can go to the final big warp from the first screen of this game, and you're done.
Overall, I wanna be the Mars is a great needle game, with only a very few flaws. One of them is the difficulty curve. The game itself have some planes and diamonds mostly in the first part of the game, and suddenly gets easier in the moving sequence. I don't really get it. (And the moving sequence was too short to be interesting. Wish it was longer Kappa.) Also, some saves feels out of place, and this also applies on the second stage, which makes the difficulty curve a bit of a mess. And wished most of the jumps are more creative, because having the same generic jumps like Venus, the game itself also gets the same flaw like Venus.
(I saw sunbla testing this game, and modifying some of it was a great choice because if the creators didn't done this, the difficulty would become like 75 and my rating would be 8.0.)
The second flaw is the save, which when you fill the 3 saves in this game and if you want to play again, you have to delete one of them because the saves are SAVED in your computer. (I believe there is a solution solving this problem, but some of the players will not know how to solve this. But it's not a serious flaw, and this is just my personal complaint.)
Aside from the 2 flaws, this game has great needle screens and impressive music, which being the great homage of Saturn, Venus, Mercury. (Yuri has made these 3 games and Neptune, and Neptune never made to public. Mercury was same like Neptune, but Yuri distributed to some players in the past.) The game is longer then Venus, so it will fullfill the disappoint of the players who played it.
I have nothing else to complain about this game anymore, and really envies me because I wanted to make a fangame exactly like this 3 years ago, and I think I have missed my chance, and this is the only reason why I hate this game. (Planning to make it anyways Kappa.)
If you have great skills at needle games or if you are a great player, this game is a must play and will be a unique experience. But if you don't have enough skills, I suggest to build up your skills before playing this game otherwise you will suffer a lot. Highly recommended.
[Compared to the other planet series on the wiki like uranus, neptune and pluto (download link of this one got deleted), this one holds up very well with Yuri's planet series. I am very impressed.]
It's quite fun overall. If you like the solar system needle fangames, you might want to give it a try. Would recommend.
