Playing this game always brings back memories of my childhood days spent with the NES. Each level is meticulously crafted, paying homage to a different classic game, and the integration is seamless. The only downside for me is the abrupt ending of the game; there’s not even a save point after defeating the final boss. Recommend it!

In an era when needle fangames were synonymous with high difficulty and daunting for newcomers, this game emerged as a welcoming path for novices (myself included) who wished to advance their skills in needle fangames.

Many early adventure fangames tend to be a stack of high difficulty levels or various traps. The emergence of this game was undoubtedly a breath of fresh air in that era.

For a player who has just started playing the ‘I wanna’ series, this is undoubtedly a great introductory fangame.

My Top Metroidvania Fangames of 2014!
This game was initially launched in early 2013 and received its last update in 2014. It’s a classic fangame that blends adventure with a Metroidvania style. Players start with just a basic pistol, but as the adventure progresses, you can unlock more levels and abilities, eventually acquiring up to three types of weapons, including rockets and bombs. The exploration of the game world is gradual, with collectible statues scattered throughout that increase your rocket ammo capacity.
The difficulty level is well-tiered, starting from 30+ to 40+ in the early stages and rising to 50+ to 60+ later on. From the moment you enter the game interface, the background music and images immediately give off a vibe reminiscent of Metroid’s ancient and mysterious atmosphere. Despite the significant style shifts between different areas that might slightly disrupt the immersion, the game offers a lengthy and engaging experience without becoming tiresome. There are various regional styles, gimmicks, puzzles, weapons, and abilities to acquire, reminiscent of “I wanna be the overlord,” another excellent Metroidvania fangame released four years later.
While this game doesn’t quite match the excellence of “I wanna be the overlord” and has its flaws—such as a rudimentary map system, poorly designed traps common in early fangames, and stylistic inconsistencies, including abandoned passages and routes due to incomplete updates—it’s unfair to compare it to a game released four years apart. As I mentioned at the beginning, in 2014, this was indeed one of the best Metroidvania fangames I had played.
Lastly, it’s worth noting that the game’s creator is the well-known author of the “qoqoqo” series, “sunlaoqq,” formerly known as “sunwenqiao.” Those who have played the “qoqoqo” series will surely admire his ingenious route design and efficient use of space. This talent was already evident in this early game. Ten years later, if you’re still interested in classic adventure or Metroidvania games and don’t mind that the game is unfinished, I highly recommend giving it a try!
