The RNG makes this game hard as hell.

Screen 1: You activate a trigger and the spikes go nuts. Good luck making it back up.
Screen 2: A simple avoidance. Spikes swirl around and you avoid until the counter ticks down.
Screen 3: My favorite screen, you activate triggers and spikes shoot off in a random direction. Be careful of the traps waiting at the end.
Screen 4: Hit a trigger and just wait. Get lucky. Don't get hit.
Screen 5. You walk right, spikes bob up and down. I just held right the entire time about 300 times. The fun part is guessing which spike will kill you.
Screen 6: A 30 second avoidance in which you fly through the sky on a spike while spikes rain down.

Reminder that every screen has a lot of RNG.
P.S.: There's a lot of RNG in this game.

I enjoy this game quite a lot. The gimmick and the challenge is the RNG present in all the platforming. It is a shorter game, with less than 10 screens, but you will spend some time grinding for some workable RNG. Sometimes the spikes will jitter rapidly in unpredictable directions, sometimes they will fall from the sky at varying speed. It is absurd at times, but never unreasonable, and there are tricks to mitigate the bullshit potential of the RNG. I don't quite understand the all negative reviews for this game, because the RNG seems comparable to what you would encounter in a boss. I think the random element of the platforming is really fun, and implemented in a decent way.

I think Flying Spike is a great example of a game being unduly shit on because of the era in which it was made. If this game were to be released today, I think it would get much less of a bad rap. It comes from an era before the fangame community realized RNG could be fun, but in the modern ecosystem I think people can really appreciate the gameplay that emerges from RNG.

The most important thing to realize about this game is that the RNG is never unreasonable, and it's never the sole aspect of a save. Yes, some attempts will be impossible, that's guaranteed with such dense RNG, but possible attempts are very frequent, it never feels like you're just pressing R until you get a rare chance. Furthermore, every save has interactability. There are no stand still and pray saves, every single thing has actions you can take to mitigate the RNG. The entire game is a battle of player skill vs. ridiculous RNG. Almost every death feels like it was your fault, that no matter how unlucky you got, you still could've won if you'd played better.

Overall, Flying Spike is an easy recommendation. And not even just as a sudoku game, but rather just as a fun experience in its own right. The negative reputation this game has is, in my mind, completely unwarranted. This game is a well made exploration of luck as a mechanic. It's balanced really well, creating an experience that let's you enjoy RNG, without being stifled by it.

It's objectively terrible, but if you're in the right mindset, you could have some fun with it. The game is a bunch of rooms themed around RNG, each more absurd than the last, all culminating in one final barrage of RNG from the sky. It can get annoying sometimes, especially the last part (I died at the end twice). Not recommended at all unless you like fangames of this caliber, in which case go right ahead.

Fun, well-made game with a clear and interesting concept. It obviously depends heavily on random chance but does it in a controlled and clever way.
