Gimmick needle game with catharsis water, made for the first Jiujiu Cup (game-making event in the Chinese community).
There are small bugs caused by my poor coding ability, but they have little effect on the normal game-playing.
P.S. This project started before Weirdle 3, so it's still yuuutu-based gm8 engine.

Brilliant game, the whole thing is based around catharsis water, although additional gimmicks are added throughout the stages, some of which are really cool. The mechanic where you can teleport in water was really cool, the first save of it was a bit rough and after that it became my favorite stage. The other stuff is quite good, the game is filled with so many cool maneuvers and ideas that it's weakest parts for me were when it played things straight and focused more on the raw platforming. These sections weren't bad but definitely weren't as amazing as the rest was. Extra in my opinion is fine, it's fun but I enjoyed the main game more, but it's also a very short extra so it's probably worth it anyways. Highly recommend playing this, it's so cool!!

Hydrate is a catharsis based gimmick needle game I came to loathe despite it being mostly inoffensive for most of its playtime.
I'll start by listing off the positives. Firstly, the ideas presented are fresh. The gimmicks themselves aren't mind-blowingly complicated but are quite good in concept and designed pretty well, although they're not very good in execution (I'll get to that later, though). Additionally, the lack of change in visuals serves to give the game a strong identity, but this also comes with it's fair share of flaws that I'll promptly go over.
Now, I'll go over the negatives, which there are unfortunately a lot of. For starters, the needle itself is really janky - I often times found myself being inexplicably inconsistent at certain saves due to poor balancing and/or awkward movements. Likewise, the application of the gimmicks to this needle doesn't change very much. For example, the shoot/teleportation gimmick serves as nothing more but a means of making certain jumps more learny, rather than having needle being built around the gimmick in order to maximise the potential it has. As for the visuals, the perpetual grayscale very quickly becomes monotonous and makes it very hard to remember screens, which gives the game less of an overall impact on the player. A notable fix for this would be to give the screens creative block/spike structures in order to make them stand out visually which, admittedly, does sometimes happen! However, it's not enough to make the grayscale negligible. Lastly, the final save of the game is extremely underwhelming. The song choice to me personally feels very random and out of place with the rest of the game which removes the atmosphere and feel a final save should have. There are also two instances of bad collision order with spikes and two jumps that are unnecessarily precise, which also aids my belief that the final save is disproportionately difficult to the rest of the game (It took up a quarter of my playtime)!!
So overall, Hydrate is a game with a lot of potential that is ultimately brought down by nothing more than just genuinely poor execution. I did not really enjoy my time playing this, but I can see why this game would resonate with others and I hope to see more content from this creator in the future.
