Developed by Cherry Treehouse for Fangame Marathon 2022's Blind Adventure event, WannaFest 22 is a fast-paced rollercoaster through hidden gaming gems of the past!

Features:

-> Several stages faithfully based on cult classic games

This is probably the closest we will ever get to a spiritual sequel/successor to the original IWBTG, and it is absolutely beautiful. Accompanying the Treehouse's multiple on-going projects has been an incredible treat, and this game came about as a way of getting them more involved in the community. Their remaster came from out of nowhere, made by people that most of us had never seen around here and it was still just as well-made and polished as WannaFest was, in its entirety.

The same way they kept their accuracy to the smallest details, and staying as true as possible to the source material, it still shows in here as well. A lot of the art and the music is both ripped straight from the original games picked for recreations and also drawn by the Treehouse themselves, who always nailed the style of each game just right and were adapted into a fangame in a way I genuinely never thought I'd live to see. Hell, they even composed some of the songs and did some of the hilarious voice acting themselves! All of the stages had all of the members involved in their conception in some way and helped making the whole thing feel very cohesive while keeping things fresh and varied from stage to stage. I wanna avoid spoiling the actual main game's content in case you haven't seen it, but trust me that it is completely worth your time.

There's an insane amount of replayability as well for doing 100% in this game, with all the endings/modes you can go for, a boss rush arena and some of the more cryptic achievements. I can easily see myself playing this over and over, being satisfied getting more than I ever wanted out of any adventure fangame. Please do yourself a favor and follow every single project anyone in the Cherry Treehouse is involved with, and show as much love and support as possible. I know there's no way I'll ever stop being their devoted stan after seeing myself what they're capable of and where their goals are set now. I wish nothing but the best for all the lovely makers behind this behemoth of a popoff.

This team is super dedicated to their work, unlike any other I've seen before, and the passion flows through everything they touch, I just can't recommend their games enough without sounding like a paid actor. Thank you so much for making one of the most memorable experiences I've ever had with any videogame in my life, and I seriously hope to see more and more from all of you in the near future.

Based on v1.1

A marathon styled adventure game that tends to the action-platformer as opposed to precision platforming that the vast majority of fangames represent.

Production wise, its unparalleled in fangames up to this point and may remain that way for quite some time. Visual flair and polish is literally everywhere, and the audio design is equally well done, with musical shifts to match the gameplay, ample sound effects and of course the custom voicework. I'm not that familiar with the games in question, but a quick comparison can show how well executed the recreations are, and the technical aspects of the game are top notch.

Gameplay wise, its fast paced and action packed with very distinct stages. This keeps it fun and wild, even given that most of the games and styles didn't resonate with me. Changeups are constant so there's always something new to look forward to.

Ultimately, the game does it what it sets out to do very well, achieving a fast paced, fun and zany experience with a heavy focus on variety and what I would consider breadth not depth, going very much against the fangame grain. Because of that, it probably won't appeal to every fangamer, but for those it does, its a great experience.

Wannafest 22 is the blind adventure game of the fangame marathon of 2022 (which you could have guessed with the title). It retakes the old formula which is stages referenced to classic video games, but takes it to the extreme with an impressive level of dedication.

There would be a lot to say about the game, the production higher than everything I have seen since I play fangames, the attention to details to make you feel as if you were playing the og games, the final boss which is easily in my top 5 best fangame bosses, the zanny humor of the game, the insane gameplay variety because no stages play the same at all and even within a stage there are sometimes changes, the shitton of small secrets, etc

So is it a perfect game? Well, honestly yes. I don't really have anything negative to say about it.

Does it deserve a 10? For sure. To be honest there were stages I was less a fan, but they were still good and enjoyable so I see no reasons not to give it a perfect mark.

Is it the best marathon game? I don't know, I have a serious sweet spot for warp the world and would probably rank them more or less equals (actually trying to put wannafest into my ranking made me realize that it makes no sense). I might edit this part if I somedays choose the one I prefer between the two.
(EDIT : I actually solved this pretty fast by asking myself a simple question : which one does have klonoa. Wannafest wins)

Gonna agree with egg and say that this game feels like a love letter for the community. I'm gonna be honest, 2 years ago I never heard of almost any member of the cherry treehouse so the fact that they all became the center of the attention (particularly renex) and put so much effort to deliver us such a good experience makes no sense in my head, but they really feel like the embodiment of the original spirit of fangames. I sadly have to admit that I cannot vote for it as the best collab of 2022 because the farewell medley took a very important place in my heart, but this is easily the best adventure game made this year and for a long time (wouldn't consider farewell medley as an adventure, at least not for that). It feels good to know that we have such people in our community.

Absolute must play.

It's hard to really describe this game and do it justice, I'm bad at articulating my words so I won't even try but just know that this is the most passion I've ever seen go into a single game, do take the time to try it.

So yeah, no matter if youre a fangamer or not if youve at least seen the entirety of the og iwbtg, please do yourself a favor and play this game! (preferably as blind as possible of course)
