Rating based on collecting every secret. (There are two of them, and they don't affect my rating or difficulty) I also didn't use autofire on third boss, I personally think it's easier than bosses in Tempest.

So yeah, it's an オーオオ game that is more similar to WI or Tempest, rather than HST or なっとう. There sure are interesting concepts here. The problem is, as everyone knows, it just works terribly, almost every save is really awkward to execute. Bosses are literally worse. However, I kinda enjoyed stage 3, it has some wacky, but kinda fun gimmick platforming saves. So there's that, but I don't think it's worth all the trashes before that, unless you want to play some オーオオ abyss or something.

A very good experience, the game is not very long in itself with a small number of screens, but the variety in the content was unexpected.

Only one save available on each screen so a few are more difficult than others, especially the beginning in my opinion.

The boss combining the stage gimmick was a nice plus to give.

Overall a very satisfying experience.

A really good adventure game, lot's of great ideas, memorable saves and so so so much variety. Most of the difficulty in this game isn't precision as you would think, but rather from learning. What that means is, once you learn the proper cycle or how a mechanic works in a save, you'll be able to clear it, but learning it can be tricky sometimes. All this being said, I don't think this game is perfect since there are some points that can still be improved on.

These might sound like nitpicks, but these are just some examples off the top of my head. Also, don't take this review as being negative, there are too many positive things to say about this game to list, and the other reviews already go over them so I want to list some negatives for people to know.

1. Debug keys are enabled in the final version, which makes accidentally softlocking via pressing the S key very very easy. I think I broke my save like 10 times at least so make sure you back up often.

2. The first save in the ice stage throws too much at you at once. It introduces you to this cold catharsis water gimmick + introduces you to some ice physics platforming at the same time. Meanwhile, the 2nd save doesn't even use the water gimmick and just has ice, which makes me feel like having these 2 saves swapped would've flowed better.

3. The water stage boss, volcano stage boss, and final avoidance have most of their difficulty towards the end, which get annoying if you die to the end a lot. For the water stage boss, this becomes a problem since the beginning gets very boring and repetitive, same with the volcano stage boss with the added fact that your hands will get tired from mashing shoot when there should just be autofire here. Final avoidance I still enjoyed though, but if you're not that into avoidances then you might disagree.

4. A big reason why learning saves in this game can be so difficult is because a lot of the time the game will throw you into the deep end of a new gimmick right away. Rather than easing you into it by using the same gimmick multiple times with increasing difficulty, it chooses to do "1 and done" saves where you'll see a gimmick once and then possibly never again. At the very least, this makes it so the game has plenty of variety per save, but some may find that it makes the flow of the game somewhat awkward. I think the worst example of this is with the climbing wall gimmick in the final stage. On the save you are introduced to this gimmick, you have it on a wall with a moving cherry and a bunch of spikes. Obviously, you aren't going to know how the gimmick will work right away, and there are a lot of things you'll want to experiment with to fully understand it like "What happens if I jump during this?" etc etc. Having all these obstacles with this brand new gimmick makes trying to understand it a much more difficult task than it needed to be.

5. The ice stage boss and factory stage boss both have like 1 attack where if they spawn on top of you and then choose that attack, it can be very difficult to avoid in time. The bouncing blue snowflakes during the ice boss can also be really hard to see.

Lastly, I'm too much of an avoidance-head to say anything really negative about the final avoidance, other than the fact that it can be tricky to learn if you're playing blind. I don't think it's that much harder than the rest of the game like everybody else. It's mostly just a lot of pattern learning and as I said previously, most of this game's difficulty is learning.

Pretty dense needle overall with one save for each screen available.
One also has a route choice, which I found a little unbalanced but not by much.

Aside from a couple jumps here and there, there are a lot of standard jumps in different variations.
The aesthetic was nice, perhaps the bottom being a litle dark but there is not much going there usually.

I was not expecting any fancy game over animation in this game, was a fun change from the usual.

while it’s not the worst game of all time, it doesn’t exactly shine either. it seems to get progressively worse and harder as you go on, having more difficult and strange maneuvers as you approach the end of the game. it gets surprisingly difficult surprisingly fast, as nearly all the jumps look a lot easier than they typically are. the needle itself is in Phonotaxis style, but more difficult. instead of making saves longer to increase difficulty, this game opts for similar save length but simply harder needle, which isn’t executed all too well unfortunately. the required inputs get quite insane, oftentimes requiring several quick and difficult lowjumps. it sort of stops resembling Phonotaxis at one point and devolves into its own style of needle (which is not so great). the visuals are alright and the music is alright, not much to talk about there. I fear this game used to be a lot worse, yet the nerfed modern version still leaves more to be desired

one of dopamine’s weaker games for sure, but even despite that it’s quite good. needle is essentially Abducted-tier, yet it lacks the atmosphere that Abducted radiates on a constant basis. there are a few vstrings which might look scary to people who don’t know how they work, but generally every jump is very forgiving. unfortunately the game is quite short and leaves a lot to be desired, especially right at the end. I won’t spoil what happens, but you probably won’t be very surprised by it. clear screen is strange as usual — you don’t know if there’s anything hiding in the invisible blocks. I haven’t found anything, but I don’t think I checked all too much
