Rating & difficulty based on the revised version of every stage that had one, not the original versions.
The next big project from Cherry Treehouse, which has been in the works for around 10 months... Wowsers, this game was definitely worth the long wait, and that becomes clear from the first few minutes. (MILD SPOILERS BELOW)
There's just so much to unpack with this game, but for now, I'll start with the hub. HOW THE FUCK DID THEY ACHIEVE SOMETHING THIS GRAND?!?!?! All the 3D terrain, its well established depth, and the beautiful shading, PLUS THE FACT THAT EVERYTHING'S FULLY TEXTURED TOO?!?!?! I'm just in so much awe seeing it. The theme of a tropical island is also really beautiful, and it allows for SO MUCH LOCATION VARIETY because of it, such as a town & hotel, an island, an underground grotto with lots of crystals, a bamboo forest, and even a gigantic mountain!
The lobby itself is also fun to navigate, with plenty of pathways from one area to another, such as a boat, a hot-air balloon, a taxi, and even a hang glider too! There's even a race that forces you to master those fast travel paths so you can get to the mountain's peak as fast as you can. Even just smaller details such as the trees blowing in the wind, the sunrays, the day/night cycle with changing music, ropes in the underground section, the reflections in the hotel, AND BEING ABLE TO GO FULLY UNDERWATER (WITH FULL ON CORAL SIMULATIONS DOWN THERE), it's all just so much to take in and its amazing.
Of course, it would be no hub, without THE STAGES THEMSELVES! To start off with, at the start of the game you're given the option to either hide level names and authors until you beat their respective stages, I went in with that particular option. From there I tried to guess authors as well as I could, this led to many memorable moments of confusion where I had no clue who possibly could have made it, feelings of victory when I guessed an author correctly, and surprises when an unexpected maker was the one behind the stage (or if I guessed an author wrong).
Each and every one of the stages is a bucket full of love, with some of the best and most creative ideas I've seen in any fangame, THRILLING GAMEPLAY THAT HAS YOU ON THE EDGE OF YOUR SEAT UTILISING THOSE CREATIVE IDEAS, AMAZING TONE AND ATMOSPHERE VARIETY FOR EACH AND EVERY STAGE, and plenty of secrets to find too. Even the lower entries were a blast to play through, which really says a lot about the quality of this contest. Some of the stages genuinely felt like mini adventure games within smaller stages, such as 25th-A, 16th, 12th-B, 8th, 3rd-A, 3rd-C and 1st. My favourite entry would probably be either 3rd-B because I just genuinely vibed with the gameplay, mechanics & theming of that one the most, or 1st because I genuinely felt like I was uncovering a full blown ARG (without anything external to the game) in that stage.
This now stands as my new favourite fangame ever, because of the unforgettable experience it brought me as I progressed from stage to stage. I really don't have much else to say other than... PLEASE PLAY IT FOR YOURSELF, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!
Genuinely well done to Cherry Treehouse for an absolutely stellar game to finish off 2025 with. :)

If you have played Scenario, or Farewell, more recent games by azure, you can think of this as an old and unpolished version of those two games. It does not mean Sorrow is less fun by any means, this still has various gimmick platforming, super engaging low HP bossfights, and cute little story, all of which are special characteristics of azure's games. Although I do have some gripes with this game, I really enjoyed playing this and would easily recommend it to adventure genre enjoyers.

Even though this Secret Santa is from another year and dedicated to someone else, it feels like a Secret Santa made for me, because it has EVERYTHING I love in a fangame. Great music, great visuals, gameplay based on Super Mario 64 in that it's a semi-open area with different mini-objectives to complete to earn the "stars" of this game, which are golden apple slices, and very comfortable difficulty.
I had a great time playing the entire game, except perhaps for one particular "slice" (the electricity switch one) which I consider to be much more difficult than the rest of the game (it's what gives the game my difficulty rating. The rest is maybe 40 at most), to the point that it has taken me approximately 3/4 of the number of deaths I had.
In short, if you want a Super Mario 64-style experience, this fangame is one of the best I've seen at capturing that essence
