"It's a parody of a certain Aiwana. It's not a ripoff."
NegiTrap is a LoveTrap ripoff answering the never-asked question: "What if Lovetrap was worse?"
If you know LoveTrap, you know how this game works in all forms. 6 stage, 8 secrets (with 2 in the hub, 2 in the circle fruit stage, and 1 in the rest). Bad Apple stage, Miku avoidance, buffed bosses, Big Kid. The general idea of the game is very much the same.
However every screen is also heavily based on the original screens of LoveTrap too, even up to the secrets. The worst offender being the water stage where the layout is basically 1-to-1 with Lovetrap, and most of the platforming too.
While this game had an opportunity to improve on LoveTrap's mistakes, it decides to instead run with them.
For example, the upwards/downwards water plane save still exists and the secret in that stage still has a water corner.
The by far most insulting part is the take on the Bad Apple stage, where some spikes/blocks are white, and some are black. There are buttons in a few places to change the background colour so you can see, but then you still have to remember the place of the other colour.
The boss of that stage is also by far, in my opinion, the worst. 3 smiley faces from the old "You are an idiot" youtube video/virus. You can jump inside the smileys like a non-solid block or a platform, and the ground turns into spikes.
This means if you double jump outside the smiley, and do not jump inside the smiley, you don't get a jump restored.
Also the hitbox is only where the lines are, so if you jump in the center of the smiley, you don't jump.
It does have its funny moments though, like the replacement for the Fruit boss is a matryoshka doll, with a music box version of Matryoshka playing. Also, while the Bad Apple stage is pretty bad, the majority of the platforming is decent to ok at worst, with it's moments of something interesting (but still clearly heavily based on LoveTraps).
While the game is (according to the readme), Karigito's "second work", so some mistakes are to be expected, it cannot excuse the absolutely god awful rng on both versions of the Miku fight.
Ignoring the very stereotypical instagib patterns it has, if you thought the 9 platform layout bouncing was a problem in LoveTrap it's been severely ramped up here such that you basically stand in the corner, hope, and then hope you memorised which direction the coloured fruit move in (left/right/up/down) so you can dodge them flying at you after freezing.
Both myself and another person independently said the fight reminded us of IWBT Secret, an avoidance that has an attack that spawns a fruit randomly anywhere on screen at any angle with a semi-random speed.
Without a guide, the long Miku will probably take you hours, and with, it will still take more time than it's worth. Regular Big Kid took me less than 30 minutes afterwards too, being shockingly easy.
Thankfully, if you just want to "clear", you get a credits in the hub after you've cleared the main 6 bosses without any of the buffs.
Overall though, if you're curious about playing this, just play LoveTrap instead.
