Needle is a nothingburger, avoidance is the main game.
Honestly I thought it was pretty fun. It's very outdated but it's enjoyable in a simple way. I only really struggled with 2 parts of the avoidance. Those being the intro, which can give you an unlucky streak of walling you at the end of it over and over, and the aimed red lines at the end of the avoidance where the screen flips, and RNG can get in the way (if the RNG forces you to jump, you're dead). Everything else was okay. I also died to the last attack but not because I got walled, I just panic jumped into a single curving cherry. I think the constant screen flipping makes for some interesting reading sometimes where you have to mentally prepare for it. Also the song is good.

It's hard to even find something wrong with this game, it's one of the best made fangames I've played, it feels less like playing a fangame and more like playing a fully fledged Metroidvania game.
It has a ton of hours of content, a ton of bosses, items and abilities to get.
If you are itching for a huge adventure game then I definitely recommend playing this one.
