If you're willing to turn on autofire, this game is legitimately pretty fun, if you don't then yeah it's kind of bruh. I opted for the former, and really enjoyed my playthrough with it, the ridiculousness found within makes for many laughs. I will say that it is somewhat hard when it comes to the bosses, I excluded a difficulty rating since I used autofire, but you can expect something around 55 or higher without it. The platforming is not a problem at all though, so don't worry too much about needle or whatever.
Would recommend, once again please use autofire.

2-3 screens of needle and an extra screen much more difficult in the second half.
There are small indicators that artificially add saves, by allowing to shoot through them, without having to place more saves on the screen.
