For: Michael Wanted To Be The Guy
Unpopular fangame dedicated to streamer michael_1985 with single game related worlds. Totally not a boshy ripoff, right!!?? In fact, yes. It's more than that.
Michael Wanted To Be The Guy consists of 3 worlds, 2 bosses and 1 mini-boss. It has about 35 stages. What I love about this game are the mechanics! They were so many I can't even tell, that's how amazing it is. Bosses have animated cutscenes with actual voices and they are built of pure epicness. Right, there aren't many bosses, but each of them has about 8 different attacks, and they're all fun. Only the rng may be a problem sometimes. The soundtrack contains only the most epic remixes of retro game osts and it's visble in the game files. Also, it's made in Game Maker, so it doesn't crash, EVER! The ending is a little disappointing, however, it's still 'work in progress' and we can only hope that Epihaumut will continue working on it.
Worth playing as hell! I've completed it two times already and I didn't regret it!

Okay, first I have to state that I don't love the game because it's the original, only because this is a great game by many aspects. I can't judge it by its engine (which is crap), but gameplay. Platforming isn't that bad really, it wasn't too hard or too easy I guess and I absolutely loved Mecha Birdo and Dragon Devil. Also people say the boss difficulty was unbalanced. It is in fact true, but which game has all boss fights on the same level of difficulty? The further you go, the harder bosses get, deal with it. Honestly, IWBTG was actually a challenge for me all the time - from the beginning to the end. I gained skill through levels as they were getting more tough, just like it should be.
However, I can't say it was flawless. The last chapter (except The Father) was pretty disappointing and some secret items were remarkably too easy to achieve (basically all of them except the third item, that was a bitch!). No fullscreen mode was a drawback, too. But we need to remember that this is the platformer that started the whole idea behind fangames, all the traps, humor and mechanics, and you should still respect that.
The review is based on Hard Mode, which I consider to be the 'normal' mode. btw I'm not good in writing reviews, just as you can see.

Cute fangame with three stages of simple needle-ish platforming followed by a boss. Cute visuals, nice musics, annoying death sound. Some generic traps, some funny traps. The boss is somewhat interesting, being able to deflect attacks and heal himself, but some attacks are quite unbalanced.
It's simple, but fun. Would recommend.

Pretty fun game. Four stages, three bosses. Mostly simple platforming with a couple traps here and there. The traps are mostly generic, but there aren't too many of them, so they don't really do any major harm to the platforming. The bosses are simple, but mostly fun, too. There's a Save at Stage 3 that forces you to go through the same screen three times in a row, with no changes at all, which is never a good idea, but that's pretty much the only annoying part of the platforming. Nice visuals and musics (Although the musics restart and the game uses the standard annoying death sound).
It's simple, but fun. Would recommend.

It's a fun game while it sticks to needle. Plenty of interesting jumps that can shine when there's no poorly used gimmick/poorly placed trap to ruin the game. The bosses are also quite fun and surprisingly fair. Stage 1 is mostly about needle with a couple predictable fake block traps here and there, so it's actually fun for the most part. There's a screen where you need to ride a moving platform that can steal your second jump when the platform is moving down, and there's a part where you need your second jump. This screen is pretty much the bad part of Stage 1.
Stage 2 introduces some gimmicks. There's a terribly flashy screen right at the beginning that covers most of the screen for the most part, followed by a screen that starts giving you bad align for the first jump, which ends up making the first save a lot more annoying than it should be. The rest of the stage ranges from alright to actually fun, with a nice gimmick involving spikes that appear for a brief moment at specific moments, forcing the player to move around in really weird ways, but those two first screens are easily bad enough to ruin the stage.
Stage 3 is a massive disaster. It's a 7-screen long single save that includes an extremely precise jump, a way too slow-paced platforming, an invisible block maze, a couple traps and choke basic needle jumps all around. It's simply terrible, and easily enough to ruin the game.
Standard visuals, and quite bad ones at that. Restarting music, annoying death sound.
It's somewhat enjoyable at some points, but the boring parts are just WAY too boring. Wouldn't recommend.
