Conscience is an adventure game that managed to consistently disappoint me the entire playthrough. There are good ideas here, interesting obstacles, and varied aesthetics, yet all of it feels either superficial or tedious. It's a good representation of having a plan but failing to fully execute it, thus creating a half-baked mess.
First, let me start with one of my main issues, the music straight up gave me a headache. I don't normally get bothered by restarting music, but holy shit did the start of some of these songs sound terrible repeating their first notes over and over again. I believe this complaint is especially warranted considering there's one segment that actually does not have restarting music, meaning the developer picked what did and didn't intentionally as a design choice. I think this system is absolutely terrible, especially when the gameplay isn't exactly easy and will result in a lot of deaths.
Next, I found a lot of the platforming segments absolutely horrible, such as the Chain Chomp chase, the screen with a bunch of laser fuckery, and the part where you ride the Mario snake block through the baseball shooters. There are a lot of other distasteful segments as well, and nothing ever made up for them by being particularly fun. Added on to this are traps that are usually fine, but there are a load that just serve to make saves more tedious without being funny at all. Of all the stages, the last one especially sticks out like a sore thumb, it's basically just Needle involving moving spikes, spinning shurikens, and moving solids, and most of it doesn't actually play as fun as it might sound. (Once again I find myself asking why Medley makers always borrow from the most boring stages like this one). None of the game is like this at all, so it's pretty unusual and ruined the overall mood of the game in my eyes.
The bosses are a mixed bag, like half of them are fine but the other half just sucks. The final boss is particularly obnoxious due to how much it buffs itself in the second phase (upon reaching half health). A big problem with every boss is that they're mostly just 3-4 attacks that go on the whole fight, occasionally they'll just be buffed but still the same thing. None of them are actually entertaining because of this, they just end up being boring, which is one of the worst things a boss can be.
Overall, Conscience feels like a complete mess that I didn't really find any enjoyment in. It needed a lot more time in the oven to actually flesh out more, instead, it just feels like an unfinished product with minimal playtesting. Wouldn't recommend it.

It's a nice adventure game, short-ish, enjoyable, not really varied but committed with the few things it has to offer. Bosses are enjoyable too. It has a lot of charm and is a throwback to the reason many of us started to play fangames to begin with. That shows throughout with its graphics and production value. In a way, traps are uncalled for in this kind of game, as it mines the "adventure" feeling; however, some are funny even if the most overused ever. Final boss has very unfair attacks during the second phase and they can become quite the annoying trash, as it is not, conceptually, a difficult one, but is made due to bad RNG decisions. Still, the game performs better as an adventure game than it does for creation bosses.
Recommended. I miss this kind of old-school fangames, re-starting music and all...

Really good adventure game, lots of cool traps and ideas all throughout. My only complaint is that the second phase of the final boss felt real strict and unfair, especially that attack where you have to turn twice since you'll end up dying to it 90% of the time even when you know what to do.
