Rating based on beating EX avoidance.
2011 adventure game, made as a celebratory game for きーちゃま gaining 100 followers on his Niconico community, according to きーちゃま Niconico stream info (https://live.nicovideo.jp/watch/lv64153109). Game consists of several short needle and trap stages, with few bosses and 1 avoidance. After you beat the game, you unlock EX, which is an avoidance featured later on in 'I wanna RE : The Avoidance'.
Originally, I have beaten this game in December of 2023, and now I have re-beaten it. I did not necessarily like this game first time, but I disliked it even more after beating it 2nd time. This game is very incoherent as a game.
You start the game with restarting guy rock and quite precise trap, followed by several other traps. Then there is pure needle screen with no traps. And then you suddenly enter the castle, where you have Cave Story music. First screen has traps, which are a bit more original than in the first section. But then in the second screen you have a maze, where you see several black squares. Your goal is to guess which square leads you to the next room. This is extremely annoying screen, and on my 2nd playthrough I did not even bother remembering and just watched the video. The fact that some of these paths are much harder than others, makes playing this game blindly very unpleasant. From here on, I recommend using my video as a guide, if you ever try this game out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qtxWyV4_Is. It is not worth trying to guess where you have to go. Very bad screen.
Then you have a small drop designed in a very whimsical way and a boss. Boss is very bland and is not necessarily hard. Meh.
After this you go out of the castle and return to the previous aesthetic. Except you have a new soundtrack. Design wise you have more traps, that are not very fun to guess if you play blind. It is quite funny how much it gets easier once you know what to do. Needle is also not very original. This section is very short though.
Because after few saves you get in the water section. Just needle (with unintended skip?) and traps. The hardest thing is M jump. Oh yeah, also in the very end kid goes automatically in water. You cannot even die so it is just a showcase of what author could do? Very weird moment. You think that there will be chase, but no, it is just nothing. It is a bit out-of-box though. Also funny how the bow disappears here.
Then you have avoidance. It is not very hard, although it is the hardest part in any%. I would rate this avoidance 38 difficulty wise. Initially I thought that this is 33, but after I have beaten second time, I think I underrated this. Avoidance has a lot of instagibs, but you can get quite nasty RNG. And curving requires some good reads, so it is not free. It is extremely boring and annoying though. You wait a lot, and need to pray for good RNG. It was bearable first time, and frustrating second time. Probably my least favorite part in any%. Oh, yeah, also you have fake trap in the very end. It did jumpscare me 2 times. Not necessarily cool though.
If you think that this was incoherent so far, then last stage just stops any aesthetics at all. You have Megaman tiles and very random rock song which is also used in the title screen. 1.5 screens with traps, and nothing spectacular. I liked when this game used Castle as a theme, but now this just does not fit at all.
Final boss is the cat from the title screen, and very famous Miku song, except it is 'Nuko Nuko', which was a bit cute. Boss itself is generic, repetitive and nothing outstanding in itself.
After this you have final avoidance, which is the hardest thing in the game. Originally I have rated it as 40, but now I think it is 44. As I have stated earlier, this avoidance is used in 'I wanna RE : The Avoidance', avoidance medley, where author used avoidances, which he deemed as his best. The gameplay is the same, although there are some visual changes - song title does not include info that it is original version ; timer goes off, instead of counting how much has passed and also there are no lyrics in blocks, which is the most iconic part of this author's style.
Avoidance uses 'Freely Tomorrow' song by Mitchie M, and in itself avoidance seems as fine. However, the reason why I dislike it, is the final pattern. It is extremely clumsy pattern that is quite hard to perform. I have beaten this avoidance 3 times (including once in 'I wanna RE : The Avoidance'), and while I have not died on it on my 2nd and 3rd playthroughs, it did take me time to do on my 1st time. And, honestly, it is annoying. You have to replay this whole thing just to try out something that is not clear at all. And not that everything else is original. There is a cute raining attack but that is it. Just your usual aiming attacks and random sprays. The visuals of blocks are also quite odd, in my opinion. Technically this is the best part of the game, but it is so ruined that it is not worth it, in my opinion.
I originally wanted to give this game 3.9, but let's be honest, this game is a mess. My current rating is both for 100% and any%, I do not think there is much difference how I feel about this game now. You have annoying stuff everywhere. Traps ; bosses ; avoidances ... this game cannot offer you something good. Even the aesthetics are not consistent. This author has better works, in my opinion. If you are playing this game for some reason, then probably skip EX, I do not think EX avoidance is worth it. And if you want to play it for some reason, then just play it in 'I wanna RE : The Avoidance' lol. Oh, yeah, and just use my video as a reference. Blind playthrough is not worth for this game, in my opinion.
Highly would not recommend.
