this is basically a dev commentary thing. not much of a review really but I wanted to write down my thoughts on why I really dislike this game and why its the least favorite game ive ever made.
empty needle is game made by...me. dono. I made this, for some reason. its just a needle game thing that I ended up making because I was literally just really pissed one day and wanted to make a needle game, so I started development on empty needle. the game took like, a week or two to make I think? way too long for a game of this quality really. the needle in the game is simply put really bad. its all corridor needle basically and none of it is fun at all. diagonal spam, generic jumps, corners, you name any super generic jump and its here. and I don't think generic jumps are a bad thing at all, it just depends on how you use them and I used all of these jumps in the most generic, boring ways possible.
visuals and music are ok I guess.
my game design philosophy back then was very very bad, basically just "its a good needle game if you include a bunch of random generic needle jumps over and over again. don't ever do that, please. always ask yourself if what you're making is fun or not, play test often, make sure what you make is enjoyable and others might enjoy it too. also don't forget to find a playtester or two, hearing from someone else always helps.
basically what im saying is that this game sucks ass don't play it

This feels like one of, if not dono's very earliest fangame. The needle is still solid, but you'll see a lot more named jumps and a lot less creative gimmick implementation than dono's later work. That all being said, this is a really cool flash into the past design habits of probably my favorite needle maker ever, and it was a nice little trip down memory lane for that reason. In addition to being minimalist in both design and aesthetics, the game is quite easy, and it would therefore be a great entry point for beginners into this amazing catalogue.
