EDIT: Version 1.02. Slight nerfs and a couple of other things. This will probably be the final update. Thank you to those who have enjoyed this game or even played it. https://www.mediafire.com/file/gno6w78lxxbdndj/BTB+Ver+1.02.zip/file

I Wanna Go Back To Basics is a 24 person needle collab hosted by me with the primary goal of making a needle collab accessible to everyone. It is 24 areas, with 3 screens of jtool needle each, for a total of 72 screens of content. The estimated peak difficulty of the project is 75, though most stages are around the 50-65 difficulty range. Thank you to all those who helped motivate me to make this project actually come out. I will continue to do my best to host events like this and become a beacon for the community.

Review (since I made like none of the content, I think it’s okay):
29th: I feel that this is a decent attempt at shorter precise needle. I did make some adjustments to it myself, but I feel like it’s actually pretty nice to pull off. I like the visual style of it too, so that’s a plus. 5.5/10

AlexBrogan: Some of the maneuvers in this stage are actually genius, though there are times where I feel that fun factor is sacrificed for pathing sake. The jump refresher stuff isn’t entirely my style but it’s cool. I love the gravity flipper stuff though. 8/10

Artimax: Top 3 stage for me. Very good pathing, and it’s a good sweet spot with fun and difficulty. Waiting for the Artimax solo needle game. 9.5/10

Cloch: It’s very basic, and honestly feels a lot like 2014-2015 needle. Imo it’s completely serviceable and not bad, but it’s outclassed by a lot of other stages in this game. 6/10

cLOUDDEAD: I do like this stage, but it feels like it uses full jumps too much, and while nothing with it is wrong, I don’t really think it’s my style. 7/10

Cthaere: I don’t really like this stage too much. Some jumps are pretty annoying, but it’s mixed with some pretty fun ones. I would like to see Cthaere make more though, and to make easier stuff too. 6/10

Dono: Dono makes me very proud, as I’ve watched him come an extremely long way since he started creating. The visual style is very distinctly his, and the platforming itself is very fun short saves. I think he’s found a sweet spot, and I want to see more high effort, longer games from him, as I feel that would propel him to one of the best modern makers. 8.5/10

Ez: I did change quite a few things in this stage but it’s actually pretty decent. I remember watching Ez make it and having to constantly point out skips while he was making, so I guess my critique lies with trying to be conscious about that stuff as you make it. The stage is pretty fun though. 7.5/10

Fruitless: I’ve said this before, but while the jumps themselves are pretty alright, the layouts feel like someone whose never made needle before. I would love if he experimented with layouts more, as I think this style can work with more refinement. 6.5/10

Gordon: ...yeah... 12/10

Ian: Another top 3 stage. Hits a difficulty sweet spot, with very fun needle, and just the right amount of pathing and leeway. 9/10

Kii: Significantly better than I thought it would be. Very fun maneuvers in here, and some fun strings of jumps together. 8.5/10

Kittygame: Other stuff Kitty has showed me in his current projects looks very fun, so I’m kinda curious what happened here. I think it’s fine, as sometimes when we try new things, they don’t really work, but this stage didn’t do it for me. 5/10

Komachi: I wished that the screens were all like the first one. The other screens were pretty disappointing. Probably my least favorite area unfortunately. 4.5/10

Lemon: God tier. I loved it. I would love a whole game of mini align mazes like this that teaches the player in a better way about align tricks and all. 9/10

NotEvenAmatueR(me): I was not expecting my stage to be one of the hardest ones. I’m typically used to my stages being pretty easy in collabs, so this caught me off guard. When I made my stage, I wanted to try doing stuff I don’t use often. In this case, they were: miniblocks, unstructured spike formations, and one save screens. I feel that screens 1 and 3 are very good screens, and I still like them, however screen 2 didn’t really pay off and I’m sorry about that. I will continue to do my best and improve my level design. I would rate my stage an 8/10, and I hope that isn’t too high.

Prince: It’s fun, not much to say. I liked it. 7.5/10

RandomChaos_: I like Random’s needle. It’s good comfy, fun. 8/10

Shign: Pretty fun dotkid needle. It wasn’t too special compared to other dotkid stuff, but I did like it. 7.5/10

Skulldude: Top 3 stage. Exactly what I’ve grown to expect out of skull needle. His style has evolved in a lot of good ways in 2020. 9/10

Taprus: It is a good stage but too much full jumps. It doesn’t help that I’m very bad at this type of jump refreshers needle. I think Tap knows how I feel already though. 7/10

Very cool: Pretty nice stage. It’s good beginner needle. Feels like old sunlao needle, but unfortunately I think it’s not as memorable specifically because it’s so easy. That’s a me issue though. 7.5/10

Wspr: Honestly the exact type of stuff I like, but it’s a bit hard in some spots. Looking forward to more. 8.5/10

YBMA: I like it. Feels like a more polished version of the screens from his solo project, and feels like an easier version of the game it takes visuals from. 8/10

At the time i writing this revies i would say this is the best needle collab i've played so far. I guess it's not my final opinion and there will come in future of my gaming experience more impressive works, but for now i will keep going with this

So yes it's consistently fun and good for most part. There's a lot of stages in this game, most of them based on some unobviously pathing and interesting usage of basic gimmicks like vines, gravity swicthes etc. Basic rule - every stage has a 3 screens

Update: I rebeat this game. It's solid needle collab, but i definitely slithly overrated it in general. I will provide notes to every stage of what i think after rebeating them (not wanna delete old notes tho)

I will give a little glance back at every stage. For convenience i will rank stages in order from hardest to easiest one, and so here we go:
After rebeat: Old order was Wspr - Taprus - Chtaere - AlexBrogan - NEAR - Artimax - Kii - Shign - Cloch - Komachi - Wasabi - Ian - YaBoi - Kitty - Lemon - Ez - Clouddead - Skulldude - Prince - RandomChaos - 29th - Dono - Very cool - Gordon

Wspr - this was overall fine. It's kinda ironic that this was a last stage i've played and since i was really in charge of rushing game to the end, this stages frustrates me a bit, mostly screen 2. So screen 1 and screen 3 are okay, relatively hard compared to most of the screens in game, but screen 2 is kinda another level. It's 1-save screen and most of the hard not really ordinary jumps placed closely to the end, which is meh for me. But it's still pretty cool stage - 7/10. One of the best musics in the game is here as well
After rebeat: Pretty fun. Nowadays i didn't find that screen 2 and screen 3 are that different in terms of difficulty. Music if for sure banger. New rating - 8/10

Chtaere - first 2 screens are pretty straightforward and fun. Third screen is different - it's precise-based with some tricky usage of vines and platformes as well. Probably, one of my favourite screen in the game, even despite penultimate save is way harder and don't fits difficulty curve. 9/10
After rebeat: Last screen is actually the worst, lol, idk why i'm enjoyed it that much back in past. First two screens are pretty fun tbh. New rating - 7/10

Cloch - this stage was perfect for me. I find the spirit of this area very comparable to me, also i like unique style of each screen, First screen is kinda similar to overall feeling of the game, second one has some Crimson Needle-vibes i would say and the third one is kinda meme and serious at the same time. Also music is really banger. 10/10
After rebeat: This stage has rizz for me for sure. But some awkward jumps ruined enjoyment - like drop on vine on pre-last save (screen 1) or Rukito drop (screen 2). New rating - 7/10

Taprus - this stage focuses strongly on jump refreshers, used them to make some crazy paths. It's mostly fun, it's pretty hard tho, however i dislike some of the jumps on the screen 3 (another 1-save screen) - again hard jumps in the end. Also the song in this stage... well, i don't think it's good for this. It's actually funny, because i'm russian and quickly realise what is this, but still - in the long grinds this becomes annoying pretty fast i would say. Overall this stage receives a 8/10
After rebeat: Banging refresher needle. Back in the days i wasn't experienced enough, so i had massive struggles; now it was pretty linear chill experience. New rating - 9/10

Artimax - very good stage. Maker uses almost every bit of screen space and create some really interesting paths here. First screen is pretty easy, then comes next two screens that are way more difficult, but way enjoyable as well. This stage also heavily utilise graviswitches, and even that i'm not a fan of this gimmick, i find this cool how they are used here. 9/10
After rebeat: Had some pros, but also had some cons. Few saves are also kinda stand-outs in terms of difficlty in not the best way. New rating - 7/10

NEAR - introducing with 3 unique screens maker actually did it right. I actually feels like despite every screen are very different from rest, they are linked into something joint, they share some intuitive spirit, which is very cool. Truly great work and very fun jumps, screen 3 despite it's 1-save screen was pretty fun - perfect example of how you make 1-save screen. 9/10 (i didn't like some stuff on screen 2)
After rebeat: It's pretty good. Didn't felt like something special, but solidly fun. Screen 2 has some bruh moments, but over than that, didn't had issues. New rating - 8/10

YaBoi - kinda depressive stage in terms of artstyle, i guess it's really cool if you play it last, will give you some sentimental vibes. Song is very fits visuals as well. Needle itself is okay, nothing really great, but it's enjoyable for what is it. 7/10
After rebeat: While this stage has some good-ish jumps and even saves, most of the stage felt not really interesting and some jumps were quite annoying. Definitely not the best needle that comes from YaBoi. New rating - 5/10

AlexBrogan - very very gBrain pathing - most fittable words for this stage. One of the best stages imo, the only thing i dislike is refreshers save on screen 2 in left down corner. It's kinda annoying to perform and the second half of the save is super chokable. But still, the rest was gold-tier-like. 10/10
After rebeat: Yep, it's still banger, best stage in the game. Rating unchanged

Shign - so, i like Neon-style a lot, you know. But this... not touch me in the good way. I for some reason really dislike how this needle goes, most of the jumps are awkward and pretty uncomfortable to execute. I just, don't know, man, but this stage not give me positive Neon-vibes, that i was expecting at start. So, i give it 4/10
After rebeat: Definitely not the best dotkid needle i've played, but it's better than i remember. New rating - 6/10

Kitty - quite good. I like background very much, one of the things that hooked me into this game. But the needle itself is not really enjoyable, i didn't feel what style maker tries to represente and i think it's kinda doesn't match background as well. 6/10, because i didn't get this
After rebeat: Claustrophobic needle in bad way. I think spare jumps placement could fit more to this background. If you like this stage tho, you must play I Wanna Whispered Treasures, you will enjoy it for sure. New rating - 4/10

Kii - very interesting stage that stands a design where's no blocks, only platforms and water. It's actually pretty fun, some saves on 3 screen is hard-ish, but i like them, they are totally enjoyable. Paths are not that complexed, so it's kinda straightforward, still cool tho. 9/10
After rebeat: It's really surprisingly fun, despite not the shiniest appearance. Consistently enjoyable. Rating unchanged

Wasabi - probably most "generic" stage from all of them, no gimmicks here, just corridor-type needle. I'm usually glad to play this stuff, but this stage i didn't find fun. Screen 2 is annoying, and 2 other screens are just faded. Pretty meh overall and i give it 5/10
After rebeat: Really awkward and bad stage. Had strong feeling that maker didn't know what he wanna do here. New rating - 3/10

Ez - good stage. Heavily utilise water passes where you not allow to jump, usually i'm not fan of this, but here i like it. I also love visual style and this symmetrical feeling of the screen. 8/10
After rebeat: Has few nasty places, but in general pretty great needle with a lot of water floating. Rating unchanged

RandomChaos - i like avoids from this maker very strongly, but unfortunately i didn't find this needle very impressive. It's just ok, i would say, nothing wrong with that, visuals are nice, but in terms of jumps and paths nothing really interesting. 6/10
After rebeat: Yeah, it's kinda balls. Nothing too offensive, but i didn't enjoyed any single save as well. New rating - 5/10

Komachi - this was one was not that bad, but it's kinda forgettable and leaves you with feeling that maker don't really decide which style he choose for his area. Screens are different from each other, but not in the good way, it feels like a mess, and i don't like visuals as well. 5/10, because there's nothing truly bad, nothing good as well sadly
After rebeat: It's like okay, but feels very distincted in not best way for sure. Maneuveres themselves tho are quite okay, so this stage was far from bad. New rating - 7/10

Clouddead - definetinely not bad, but i just don't find this stage perfect. It has pretty obvious style, which just doesn't work with me. So yeah, this area is good, i'm just not a fan. 7/10
After rebeat: It's kinda too raw for what it is, but it's pretty stylish one and far from bad. Not my favourite tho. Rating unchanged

Skulldude - very similar to Ian's style, kinda more enjoyable in total, so slightly above median i would say. It's kinda good example of how you make not extraordinary, but very fine piece of needle. Kinda lacks of difficulty imo. 7/10
After rebeat: Great needle with good maneuveres. Enjoyed it more than in first time. New rating - 9/10

Prince - i think this is the most fun stage in terms of jumps design. How maker uses water passes is just pure gold, screen 1 is just iconical for me tbh. Very like this, but i wish this stage has a more content, feels kinda unfilled to logical end. 9/10, in total
After rebeat: Very good setup needle. Prince can make hella classy platforming if he wants. Rating unchanged

Ian - okay-ish stage. I didn't really remember it, which is not good sign, and after rewatching me cleared this, i just think it's pretty typical. It's just represents median stage, nothing really outstanding here unfortunately. 6/10
After rebeat: It's chill and has some clever stuff occasionally. Had fun. New rating - 8/10

Dono - sort of easy, pretty superb stage. The style of this area is super-chill, visuals are very pleasant and i like almost every save. The music is so good as well. Very cool, and i have no negative issues with this at all. 10/10
After rebeat: I kinda overhyped this in first playthrough, but it's still fun platforming based on short saves and slightly tricky jumps. New rating - 9/10

Lemon - techy-oriented needle, which i'm always glad to meet, when it's not pushed to the limit. Some bunny hopes, some vstrings movements, some apple animations abuse. It's really fun, and the guide is very helpful, it's not open you every hint, but it gives enough. Very nice change of pace and pretty cool saves as well. 9/10
After rebeat: Fun chill introduction to align-maze type of needle. Shame most of the games in that vein are too hard anyways, but this fact didn't lower my enjoyment from this stage. Rating unchanged

29th - despite being pretty short in terms of lenght of the saves and overall feeling of this area, i find it very likeable. It has some modest charm and i'm glad i decide to start the game with this one. 7/10
After rebeat: Weak attempt in Butterfly Nova style. Could be much better, it's not the worst tho. New rating - 6/10

Very cool - solid and simple stage. Visuals are wacky in very good way, and needle itself is no gimmick, but really good paths. Despite being quite easy, i find this area extremely fun to play. 10/10
After rebeat: I wish Very cool would make full game like this stage. It's absolute banger of pathing needle. Rating unchanged, second best stage in the game

Gordon - so... well... this was a stage, i guess. Okay, i think this was not supposed to be bad. I guess maker kinda can't finish this because of some extraordinary things in real life. Or because lack of needle-making experience at all. Maybe, he wanna create a meme. I don't know what is it, but since it exists... well, i did it deathless because it's basically free and i didn't find any good things in it. So yep 1/10, but i'm pretty sure there is something behind the scenes, which we don't know about this stage and why is it so dumb
After rebeat: It sure is a Gordon stage

And so this is it, full review on every stage in the game. I really like this game in total, pretty good collab and i wish all the makers good effort and ideas in their future projects
