Not only my favorite fangame but also my favorite game of all time. The quality and emotion packed into the visual storytelling and moment-to-moment gameplay across the game is truly unprecedented.
A while ago, I got through the first 50 floors in Crimson Needle 2, and there were some very interesting jumps, but I quickly got too exhausted to continue. To be completely honest, I can rarely get through 100-floor games due to the amount of gimmick-less needle. However, the platforming here is nigh-addictive; everything flows beautifully, and the completely original areas like 85-87 break up the pace of the game with fresh, engaging room structures. The visuals are consistently stylish with bold & elegant recolors of existing tilesets & backgrounds. I'll talk about music more later but I have added like 1000 songs to my playlists after experiencing all the brilliant artists featured throughout the game. Throughout the first 80 floors, I felt challenged but comfortable (also brimming with excitement as all the new information was coming out in the first few days after release). The next 20 are a lot more challenging and have especially interesting design, ramping up the gimmick usage and unique ways in which screens are remixed. The final floor is one of my favorite saves I've played. The overall flow & presentation of CN2.5 100 is pretty spellbinding, making each step of progress very satisfying & momentous. The booming music, the undulating background, and the sheer scale of the interlocking sections convey finality with immense grace and power.
