Even though the needle is pretty basic, I can't help but smile when I play this game. It's just really charming, with lots of little jokes scattered around. The avoidance is cool too, and the lives system makes it very approachable, which is good considering it will be many people's first avoidance.
Overall, this is a great way for a beginner to be introduced to needle and avoidance, and it remains a charming experience years after I first played it.

If I had to use one word to describe Animus, it would be "Bland". Every stage feels super basic and uninteresting, and fairly unmemorable. The traps are very generic, mostly being time wasters without much humor. Shoutouts to the infamous pick a path section, it's really bad and serves no purpose being in a game like this.

While I definitely thought higher of this on a replay than as a beginner, it's still certainly a game that's rough around the edges. This is a game focused on variety, and thanks to that its got a lot of cool gimmicks, and really charming and creative gameplay. However, it also has some unpleasant stuff, namely some nasty traps and that one screen in the trigger stage.
Ultimately, I would recommend this game for all the cool stuff on display. However, it's maybe not a good beginner recommendation, as I think to properly enjoy this you should have some tolerance built up for fangame bullshit.
