For: I wanna be the Dallas!
Videogames as art has always been a debated topic.
Some people see them as pure entertainment while others see videogames as a regular art medium, along with film and paintings.
Both of these mindsets aren't wrong but conflict arises when both groups try to argue against each other in order to feel some sort of superiority.
Due to the dawn of widespread internet usage and social media platforms such as Twitter or Facebook, these types of conflicts between both parties have become more common.
Now, where do I stand on this topic?
Right now, I don't really know. But I do know something...
I wanna be the Dallas? Now that's what I call art!

For: I wanna be the Boshy
Rating based for 100% on Hard-On difficulty.
I Wanna Be the Boshy is one of the most famous fangames ever made. The reason for its success is high media coverage, with the game being showcased in various speedrunning events, such as SGDQ and even AGDQ, to the point where people don't actually see it as an I Wanna Be the Guy fangame but a whole and unique video game. It's a pleasure to see that some fangames manage to go beyond the fangame community, and I would probably have never heard of them if it weren't for Boshy's popularity.
But paradoxically, the fact that it doesn't follow the common fangame formula turned it into a less enjoyable experience. My main complaint goes towards its engine. It's a handmade engine created by Solgryn himself, and there's no doubt that a lot of time and dedication were involved in making it, but it is honestly really janky. There are a lot of subpixel inconsistencies, and most of the hitboxes are way bigger than they should be. That's not a huge issue, and you'll most likely get used to it with time, but for a fangamer, it can be really frustrating. Along with that, the difficulty balance is kinda weird; some segments are significantly harder, like the eye trap in the Castlevania stage or the first jump of Random World's underground section. I genuinely think Solgryn tried these jumps one time, got lucky and first tried them, then thought they were easy enough, or at least that's the impression it gave me.
I'll still give this game a great rating for what it is and the positive impact it has had on fangames. There has definitely been a lot of work put into this game. The production value is immeasurable, and most of the game references and traps are ingenious. Moreover, the character selection is a nice idea that contributes a lot to the game's identity. It is a great pick if it's your first fangame, and you have experience with hard games in general, but if you're a fangamer, be aware of having to go out of your comfort zone.
