This game maintains the mouth feel of a figure like game, but it moves the gameplay in a much different direction that is focused around gimmicks. Each stage has something special so it never gets boring and it feels very purposefully paced. Some of the gimmicks get somewhat rough in places, but each save feels very intentionally made and never feel lazy. Overall, this game is very worth playing and is an experience larger than just the gameplay.

Dagger has a lot of interesting games that are almost always full of variety and interesting aspects, and usually, I would recommend them, but this is not one of those games. The level of variety is still present, but most of it ends up actually detrimental to the experience, added on to the fact that Dagger used some of his worst trap placements in this too.
Many of the gimmicks found throughout were borderline unenjoyable to me. For example, there's one that has you play in the background, which is cool but unfortunately for me it felt way too hard to see to the point that I had to fullscreen just to play. There's also one section in the sand gimmick stage that was pretty much garbage and involved a strict rhythm movement to go between moving spikes, I'd probably have dropped the game if it took longer than it did. Another disappointment is the lack of bosses, there's only a 60-second avoidance in the infinite jump stage and a final boss at the end, which is also pretty boring as it's just a long destination fight. The major problem though comes from the traps, which have almost always been placed at the very end of saves and will make the game feel twice as long as it should be.
Overall, it's an okay game, but I wouldn't really recommend it. Try Pendulum instead if you haven't, that's where Dagger shines the most!

After letting a very small amount of time pass, I'm mostly okay with the reception this game received. My main worry is that people won't have played the original Tethys or its immediate derivatives enough to understand why my approach to needle design was so constrained. Normally, a map needs 3 things for it to feel like 'me': fruit, water, and an f-jump. You can get two out of three here, but my inclusion of fruit is actually kind of controversial in regards to Tethys-likes (at least in my opinion, in that I haven't seen it done before).
The original Tethys is almost entirely straightforward 32px needle for the first half, and many of the screens had jumps I studied directly. In this endeavor, Serotonin was more of a guidance, and the things I took away from that game were t-boned gates and diagonals—lots of diagonals, with 16px block layouts. If possible, it might be more fun to look at this game as a direct inspection and attempted recreation of those specific elements—or, you can just say, as a needle game, it is quite limited and generic. That's a consequence of it being my first game, which is hopefully something I can overcome in the future.
Thanks to everyone for taking the time to play and review this game. I'm blown away at how many people left their thoughts and feelings. It's my sincere hope that the next 'real' game I release will be more approachable and enjoyable for everyone. <#~
