I've recently been going back through games I love / used to love and seeing where I stand on them today. I have to say, this one has aged pretty poorly for me.

Looking back at a lot of needle released during this time period, a lot of what was really well-received you can consider to be lukewarm precision needle. The jumps are super awkward, with an overwhelming amount of required low framing, unintuitive aligns, and 16-pixel landings. The game doesn't have much of a sense of progression, and I got some whiplash from the balancing from save to save. The save placements are nonsensical and waste your time.

Visually, this one also misses the mark, especially as there's a clear Uhuhu inspiration here. The tiles and spikes are great, but that's where most of my praise ends. I'm not super into the pulsing background effect; I find in general everything is too dark for how precise the platforming is; I don't really get the purpose of having Miku shoehorned into the background; and the fruit circle effect in the center of the screen obscures all platforming you have to do around it. Even the BGM I wasn't feeling; I enjoy the track, but it's not very well represented by everything else in here.

I overall got nothing out of the experience. It was a mildly annoying 30 minutes that ended with my hands being so cold that I could not feel them. It felt like a very shallow endeavour that I could have likely spent doing other more productive things. I don't think the game is awful, but I don't think I'll ever consider playing it again like I used to do once upon a time.

Considering this was the first game I've played in this "project" of mine that I was not at all feeling, I'm impressed with how I'm still able to enjoy needle as a genre, even at its most basic. But I do not miss the feelings I got when playing this.

Its... interesting. The platforming is short and has some neat ideas but it doesn't really flesh anything out, just throws one idea at you after another. Then there's the first boss which has one pretty difficult pattern attack and otherwise is quite easy. The game up to this point is maybe a 50.

Then there's the final boss. It's very long. The first phase is quite challenging without being unreasonable and is almost all rng attacks followed by a short and trivial (if patient) platform phase.

The second phase is similar, with some really neat looking bouncing attacks and a lot more rng barrages.

The third phase is a very slow moving, dense pattern followed by a short shitshow rngfest final attack.

Individually, all these phases are actually quite decent. The difficulty is a bit all over the place but there aren't too many unfair attacks. The problem is the most unfair attack is the last one, and its pretty unfair and a long trip back. Were this phase separate, it wouldn't be that bad because its the shortest phase.

I ended up playing this with savestates at each phase after feeling like phase3 was just a crap shoot (and abusing the crap out of the ability to pause midfight) and it felt like that's how the game should be. But it's not - so unless you want a rough grind or plan on doing the same, don't bother, or just play until then.

With a little bit more balance and polish this could've been a really solid little game but it's got too many rough spots left.

An amazing avoidance, with a great mix of RNG and pattern. It's easy enough for a less skilled player like myself, but still fun for more experienced players, I'd wager. There aren't many areas that could use improving here. My only gripe is the existence of a few precise or instagib attacks. All around a great game! This is how avoidances should be made!

+The music is mmm..
+The graphics are mmm..
+The patterns are pretty.
+Rarely feels unfair (bar the few instagibs).
+Great cinematic effects :O

-Some instagibs that feel out of place.

A game aimed at beginners. Not exceptionally good at any particular thing, although it does succeed at being beginner friendly. Needle is easy but there are some tricky coins you can collect, presumably to unlock another boss at the end of the game. Each stage has a theme, which can sometimes be fun, although I believe the creator should reconsider the intensity of the gimmicks he used.
I stopped at the puzzle in the final screenshot provided, because I came to play a fangame, not a sliding block puzzle, but someone else might enjoy that. The physics can be a little janky at times, presumably because of an old engine. Things like getting stuck in walls can happen.

Not sure I would recommend to anyone.

+The game succeeds in what it set out to do: be beginner friendly.

-Repeating music.
-Extreme and seemingly random use of a particular gimmick: super zoom in??
-Traps are lame and unoriginal.
-Music is sometimes not too great.
-Bosses feel like a hassle.
-Most levels are an eyesore.
