A game heavily inspired by original guy and lovetrap. It has similar vibes and a charm only a few very old games have. Gameplay wise, you can expect some flying spikes, basic plateforming and simplistic bosses, with everything mostly decent at best but enjoyable around 40-50 in difficulty.
The difficulty get however skyrocketed to 60 with the infamous idolmaster avoidance, which was something I hated from the bottom of my heart. The final boss is also quite challenging but well made and same for the boss between these two.
In overall, the game is mostly enjoyable but sadly also forgetable, I made a pause of 2 weeks at the avoidance and I can only remember a few things before that. I personally really liked the fact that the game is structured like original guy because this game is very important for me, and excepting the avoidance there was barely nothing i really disliked but I wish the plateforming was more interesting.

As one of Carnival's older but more well known games, Heaventrap holds up pretty well so long as you know what you're in for. In true Carnival style, it's a trap filled adventure through fairly standard looking areas, usually referencing the original IWBTG or making use of nice simple tiles and backgrounds, often with a completely unrelated boss to round things off. There's some pretty cool variety and I enjoyed the exploration throwback that it uses with the whole Room of Divine Transportation thing.
The bosses whilst being relatively simple all felt interesting enough and unique to stand out, with mixed memorability.. Not many games give you the chance to have a final destination showdown with the Smash Bros icon, or have a taiko showdown in a Big Kid-esque segment. None of them feel remotely special in terms of production value which isn't really expected given the age of the game, but it would've been cool to see the bosses go beyond just a static sprite hurling some attacks at you.
I'm somewhat hit or miss with trap-heavy games like this, so I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it and how it holds up after all this time. If you're in the mood for an adventure somewhat reminiscent of the original IWBTG then it's a pretty decent choice. Just make sure you expect a boatload of trap shenanigans along the way and some very oldschool design.

Edit December 20th, 2023. Rating 5.0 - 7.0, difficulty 50 to 55 Heaventrap is a simple game that merges Lovetrap and Guy while still doing its own thing. I think it's pretty successful for the most part, though at times the confusing world navigation combined with some somewhat rude traps bring things down slightly for me. Still a light recc though. When I first played this game I wasn't good enough to appreciate the areas in which it shines.
Original
It's okay. Hasn't aged the best. Some of the bosses are fun and the platforming is fine.

fairly regular adventure game by Carnival, however often held back by some poor design choices.
there are some areas with confusing and weird design - mostly the castle and forest areas which seem filled with random traps or very specific pathing. the game is called heavenTRAP after all so I won’t knock it for sticking to it’s name and including traps. at least most of the traps themselves function well, but unfortunately they aren’t Carnival’s best. maybe at the time they were, but crimson’s traps are much better than the ones in this game. as for the bosses, they’re just kinda wack and don’t work sometimes. taiko boss sucked but devil kid and final boss were good.
i bet you thought that the devil kid WAS the final boss
