Apparently there's an extra for beating on very hard? I'm not patient enough to go through the game again at 1 save/25 levels (and no checkpoints before the bosses either), but surely someone braver has managed to do it before. Please let me know if it's worth it.
This game is a real flash into the past—100 floors of increasing difficulty, starting with no spikes and ramping up. The first genuinely challenging save for me was I think 93? Or somewhere around there. The bosses were mostly just really long, but still wonderfully designed. In particular I liked the pseudo-rhythm game and the paper airplane. This game puts a lot of attention into the detail of transitions and level presentation, and arguably about 15% of my playtime was taken up by 'interactive cutscenes', usually just walking through some harmless geometry for a few screens while the level-feeling changed.
There are a lot of 'fake trolls' in this game, which I appreciate more than actual trolls. One in particular made me laugh out loud for a while. And there is an ending cutscene for when you beat the game, which I thought was very nice. Overall, you can tell a lot of care was put into this game, and it shows, even if the platforming itself is a bit dated.
Also, this was my 50th clear. uwu
