I had a lot of fun making this metroidvania. Unlike the prequel, I hope the player has a good time with this one.

Review is based on Normal Difficulty

If you look at the ratings for this game, they are all incredibly positive, and it's not hard to see why. While this review is very negative I should say, like most games I dislike, I respect this game for what it is, and there are absolutely qualities it has that are 100% valid and understandable reasons to like or love it. Despite that, I absolutely did not like this game, and to explain why I'll try to break the game down into 3 core elements, all of which I have issues with. Those are the metroidvania structure, the bosses, and most crucially, the platforming.

Firstly the metroidvania aspect. There are two major things I dislike about it, the first being the lack of a map and the second being the backtracking. The lack of the map is really annoying, because this game has moments where you need to explore and find new areas to make progress as you need to get all 7 power capsules in order to beat the game. This is very difficult when you don't even have a map in-game to navigate any of the world. This isn't that bad on it's own. but I just could not get behind the backtracking in this game. A lot of the backtracking in other games like this tends to be because you got a new ability that makes you look at the area different and encourages you to want to go back. In this game you backtrack because you got the item that breaks a particular barricade. It's not exciting at all and is just not at all engaging for me.

Next is the bosses. I probably have the least to say about these. Most of them are pattern based which just means you learn the patterns and then can beat them, usually they aren't even that hard to beat due to being able to get high enough attack to destroy them before any hard attacks, I didn't even get the most powerful items in my playthrough and I found them quite easy. I wasn't really into these at all, also the spider boss is kinda annoying.

Now for by FAR my biggest complaint about this game, and that's the platforming. There is almost no platforming in this game I enjoyed, and that's for a handful of reasons. This game is an absolute slog to go through because nearly every single platforming section is heavily based on cycles and memorizing enemy patterns. I firmly believe nothing in this game is that hard, but it takes FOREVER to get through because every couple screens you have to stop and trial and error through some obnoxious pattern or cycle until you figure it out and save. This is the gameplay loop for the entire game, and it gets old incredibly fast. It feels like such a lame way to make a game "hard" since almost everything is difficult because you don't know what to do. This was easily my biggest issue with the game, and it was a complaint I had for my entire playthrough.

This review and score is very harsh, and honestly I don't hate the game, but I probably wouldn't choose to play this over basically any other fangame, and that saddens me. I'm happy others enjoyed it more than me, and if the other reviews are anything to go off this game is 100% worth a try, but I just could not get into it at all.

Dun Wanna Be Anything 2 is most likely one of the most grandiose fangames out there in terms of scope. It boasts a huge collection of stages and bosses, each with completely different themes both visually and mechanically and all interweaving into one-another to create a very cohesive world. Zanto has made a really impressive metroidvania that's sure to be a memorable adventure for any fangame player.

The game starts off with a relatively simple series of stages and slow introduction of gimmicks to ease the player in, before introducing a variety of paths and new gimmicks to keep the gameplay interesting and fresh all the way throughout this huge adventure. Naturally with any game with this much variety, there's a fair share of ups and downs although in my experience the positives far outweighed the negatives. Some personal highlights included the galaxy brain block puzzles which felt very cleverly designed, or the Dash Zone which made for some very challenge but intense platforming sequences. Cycle-based platforming is very common in this and Zanto has taken good care to ensure fast cycles are generally always possible, making it flow much smoother.

There's also a wide variety of bosses amongst the many stages. The majority of them are learn-based with an emphasis on pattern attacks compared to barrage, and for the most part they're pretty fun to get through. I only had an issue on a couple, such as the Flame Salamander (whatever it's called) which felt very instagibby and a little unintuitive with a very long intro, although thankfully it died quickly with usage of a certain item which alleviated the problem a great deal. There's undoubtedly some sore spots that can cause a bit of frustration, although the metroidvania elements allow you to explore elsewhere for powerups to ease the fight's difficulty that little bit more.

If you dive into this, expect a long and arduous journey full of heartbreak, whimsy and wonder, but one you won't soon forget. The amount of effort put into this game is staggering and despite the odd hiccup here or there, the end result is something pretty great.

Also GUTS!

Super long adventure game with fun gimmicks and fun boss fights. I really liked the guts mechanic and the fact that you could upgrade your player from secrets. Definitely a must-play for all people that like fangames. It took me 55.5 hours to beat with 8562 deaths.

This is one of the longest and most content filled fangames of all time. It has a ton of different ideas and unique gimmicks all of which it executes magnificently. The weapons are all fun to use and its super satisfying to blast away the enemies, especially if they've been killing you over and over, there is even a puzzle area which is expertly designed and keeps up with the rest of the games difficulty. It also feels really good to discover new areas and access old ones you previously couldn't go into. My only complaint is that sometimes it's too easy to quick kill a boss before it uses all of its attacks, this is especially true with the final boss, other than that tho its a banger
