Current version: V1.2.09.07
This game is a rather long Adventure (or perhaps more accurately Needleventure) game using a variety of mostly standard gimmicks, with a couple of weird ones thrown in there. There is a story/narrative to the game, but you can opt to play without it if you so choose.
There are optional secrets, and obtaining them all unlocks some Extra content.
This project was a long time in the making, and I'm grateful to anyone that helped out or encouraged me along the way.
UPDATE: October 23rd: Made what I hope to be the final patch of the game - mostly minor fixes but also added some persistence to the Chapter 5a gimmick which should reduce some annoyance there.
UPDATE: September 27th: Some further changes made, mostly focused around the final boss.
UPDATE: September 20th: New update released with various balance changes. Details in included text file. Also fixed crashes introduced by patch
UPDATE: September 15th: Small update to fix some softlocks and an accidentally impossible route in 1 place. Larger balance fixes and overall adjustment coming later on.
...
UPDATE: September 7th 2024: Recent delfruit downtime made a long-standing bug clear where if this site goes down the game is unplayable, oops. That bug fix was the only intentional change in this release. It's honestly humbling that people are still playing this game to this day. Thank you!

I think there's a lot to like about this game. It's not the most visually polished thing ever in some areas but it has some great ideas. I really like it when games have small bits of dialogue and characters that talk to you, it makes it feel a bit more like an adventure. There are a few rough parts, such as boss attacks that are very hard to dodge or just feel unfair, a few avoidance bosses shoved in that are kind of tedious, and some of the platforming feels like it needs more to it than just needle stuff. (Especially near the beginning of the game.) Anyway, it's clear that a lot of effort was spent making this game and I think it has quite a bit of value despite some issues. I would recommend people give this a go.

While there are plenty of flaws in this fangame, you gotta appreciate the charm that was put into this and it shows in some segments of the game. Personally I had a hard time playing through the early stages of Destroy the Maelstrom, but they for sure get better and more creative once you get over the first stages. And the creator is open to feedback and to updating Maelstrom a couple of times so that is a big plus.

Amazing needleventure game in the pre CN3 style. I love the ways that screens and pathing are used in this game. You'll find yourself navigating each screen every which way possible to get through, stimulating your brain while also being fun to navigate.
The boss fights are also a great change of pace, many with interesting gimmicks or fun setpieces. Unfortunately, the combination of hard platforming and hard bosses may end up acting as a filter for many who wish to play the game.
I believe this game is way harder than the average suggests on delicious fruit, by the end of stage 5 you'll really start clenching as you try to navigate super precise jumps and beat bosses and avoidances that you will believe are nearly impossible. I found the game to easily fit a mid 70s difficulty by stage 6. I do wish the game was a little bit easier, I think it starts at around a high 40-low 50 level, and the jump in difficulty is way too large for most players to adapt to in the process of playing the game. I also think some levels could have done with cutting screens, occasionally the game feels like it drags slightly, while every single screen feels like time was put into it and never feels like a waste or filler, too much of a good thing can still dilute a product.
All that being said, I think this is a nearly perfect fangame and is about as close to a 10/10 as I can see any hobbyist work coming to. I can easily see myself replaying this in the years to come. I believe this game is underplayed and deserves love from any advanced fangame players that are want to play a highly polished needleventure that, while less gimmicky than cn3 style games, still delivers neat tricks and fun fundamental design.

This review is based on a 100% clear.
Adventure game with a lot of content, some people use the term needleventure but I don't like that term because to me "needleventure" is just an adventure game with hard platforming which is most hard adventure games. The platforming itself is pretty smooth and nice, it's very well balanced and has a good difficulty curve, but the bosses kinda break that curve, particularly the avoidances. The bosses felt pretty easy for the most part, but the avoidances all felt like difficulty spikes, which is fine because they were pretty fun but it's a bit odd to me. This made the game feel a little bumpy in some areas, but that's not a big deal really. This is the kind of game which is just consistently enjoyable, which I value. It's not mindblowing, and I wouldn't call it a personal favorite, but there's lots of effort and really no bad parts. Solid game.
Update after doing 100%: I don't think the extra content is super worth it, especially the bosses I found kinda annoying. It's bonus stuff so it doesn't affect my rating but it's worth noting since it does exist. Still an enjoyable game though.

Most of this game was really enjoyable to me, especially the needle, though it had some silly skips lol
