Good little game with a nice idea that I hope people explore more in the future because I think it can be quite interesting. For the moment, this has been a nice little experience.

An entry to the shortventure 2023 contest that was sadly disqualified due to copying an avoidance from I wanna be the Japanese Sword. The game starts with normal platforming in the first half, with basic gimmicks of swapping active/inactive spikes, shooting blocks and spikes that are invisible until you get close to them. Halfway through, the game's "assets" get lost, replacing all the sprites with character representations, reminiscent of a stage from Japanese Sword. You then go into a hub area where you must collect all the assets back. The first two gimmicks return, with long frustrating saves, as well as a Kill The Guy style bullet bill bouncing section and a section where you move the mouse cursor through a maze. The game then leads down one final path to the Japanese Sword avoidance, which is thankfully both nerfed and gives you 30 frames of HP.
This is very much a big improvement over Yang's previous works, both in the visual and level design departments, but there is still much work to be done. Some of the saves can be quite lengthy and frustrating. I found myself annoyed at many points during this game but I am nonetheless happy to see rapid improvement in this maker and I genuinely hope to see them go on to make great things in the future.

An incredible game, absolutely deserving of winning 2nd place in the shortventure contest. As a judge, I have a much more comprehensive review available, just download the contest launcher or check the discord server. As such, I'm keeping it brief here.
Craft in Space introduces a super novel gimmick, and uses it really well to create some awesome gameplay in a randomly generated asteroid belt. I wish it went a bit further, but for a game developed in only a week, this is fantastic. Every recipe feels like a new challenge, and the progression of your abilities is designed well to continually give you something new to think about.

I'm really happy I got to be a judge for this contest, the turnout was incredible. Many of the games within are incomplete, and if finished versions exist you should play those instead. However, I'd still absolutely recommend downloading this launcher and going through it. Renex did an incredible job, making something unforgettable, and the launcher is worthy of being played on its own. Additionally, it contains the judges' reviews for the games, and will help you understand them within the context of the shortventure contest.

The game that sparked the sudoku genre. Kill the Sudoku is a collection of "special" (read: bad) games. Unfortunately, it being the progenitor of sudoku means it doesn't have our modern understanding of sudoku. That is, these days sudoku means "so bad it's good", but many of the screen picks in this game are just bad. This includes precision needle, awkward but humorless platforming, and a few instances of offensive content. Ultimately, this game manages to be a decent game, if you can find it in yourself to enjoy trashy needle, but it fails at being funny. There are only a few instances where the screen picks are actually funny, most of them are just bland and annoying. There are a lot of unfunny memes (perhaps they were funny in 2015), and none of the intentionally memey picks really land. The best picks are those that involve wacky gimmicks and the luck checks. Those are pretty close to modern sudoku. Unfortunately, most of the game is memes and bad needle, which for the most part fails to be funny. One of my biggest complaints is the music choices, which start out as fun, classic memes, but progressively devolve into annoying, unfunny songs. Since the game gets harder over time, this means you're listening to the worst songs for the longest.
Overall, this game is actually really interesting to play from a historical perspective, and I would easily recommend it to people interested in fangame history. For sudoku fans, it's a more questionable recommendation, but I think it still has enough merit to be played. I shouldn't have to say this, but if you're not in those groups, don't play this game!

Cute little adventure game where you draw in the obstacles yourself. The main gimmick is really fun, although it's a bit too easy to make invisible sprites against a given background, and there's no way to edit them later. The gameplay is decent, with some cute sections using the things you make. The big issue is that there's little indication of where to go next, on one screen I died to like 3 kill borders before figuring out which way was actually the path.
Overall, a cute game that's a good way to take up a bit of time, but the gimmick isn't used to its fullest, and can't remedy some flawed design.

Decent needle game with a questionnable save balance, but the overall is mostly positive with distinctive stages. Wasn't a fan of of the trial one as it was mostly named jumps but it still had a few interesting ideas.
