For: I wanna clear the Crime & Punishment Ver.W&B
For: I wanna clear the Crime & Punishment Ver.W&B
Review updated as of 04/02/2022 (dd/mm/yyyy).
I wanna Clear the Crime & Punishment feels closer to a practice tool than an actual avoidance. It's a modified version of the last attack in I wanna be the White & Black, notorious for being bajillions of times harder than the rest of the avoidance.
It's an interesting attack. It consists of a barrage of curving and straight cherries, coupled with occasional fast sniping attacks in sync with the music, lasting for 31 seconds (Not including intro and outro). GaspacoZanis has described this attack in detail, but just so that you remember:
- Easy version (W&B) spawns 9 fruits per burst;
- Normal spawns 12 fruits per burst;
- Hard (W) spawns 15 fruits per burst;
- Original "I wanna be the White & Black" spawns 9 fruits per burst too;
The reason why this attack is interesting is because it's more complicated than it looks. You have to manage your position very carefully: If you waste a single jump or move too far to the left, there's a good chance that you will die before you know it. There's an interesting decision-making process involved in playing this.
W&B mode is...pretty chill in general. It generally doesn't wall you and the dodges required are easier to pull off. It might require some solid reflexes and map awareness at times, but it's several times more manageable than the other versions.
So yeah, this is just a practice tool for a single attack. It's a pretty interesting attack, but it's still hard to call this a game at all. It's kinda fun to play for a few minutes, though. Maybe I would recommend, just to kill a few minutes or maybe to enhance your reflexes.

A short and unbalanced avoidance that I'm not a very big fan of. Combines simplistic pattern attacks (That might kill you on the first time, but are easy to understand and dodge once you know they are there) with bullshit RNG attacks of the most varied difficulty ranges, but sharing one thing in common: The constant threat of walling the player. There are just so many projectiles on screen, sometimes you just can't do anything at all. And the fact that the difficulty varies so much between each attack is very irky (Naturally, the last attack is one of the hardest. Who would expect anything else?). However, it does have some nice parts to it, like the way it makes the player move around the screen (Rather than forcing you to stay in the left corner all the time) and some more interesting attacks. The visuals are simplistic, featuring some visual effects that seem like a cheap attempt of making the fight livelier, and the music is alright.
I say the bad parts heavily outweight the good ones, but who knows. I'm pretty certain that I wouldn't recommend it, though.

Very fun needle with some pretty cool non-standard jumps and a really good dotkid avoidance that's a good challenge for semi-intermediate players. Would recommend.

...aka Thanks for 2018!! Rating includes 2014-2017 and 2018.
This is basically all of Summer's previous Happy New Year games put together with a new section that makes you feel like traveling through astral Asia during nighttime. Nice sprite design and cool background, which happens to be a foreshadowing all along of the boss you will encounter. For a below-average player like me, clearing all five years should take less than one hour and less than 150 deaths, especially if you have played the previous entries. The new stage should take the same average amount of time and attempts than Summer's previous "thank" entries".
There is a very nice section of the game which is promising to make expansions during the future, so I will be updating my rating and review until then, but for now, this is the best effort of the series. It is more than putting them all together; it's the spirit behind, so Summer's job can be taken seriously now. There are even messages in the visual designs, which is a nice touch of communicating with the player.
Meh, try it. Why not?

The gimmick of waiting for the rose to die as a warp to the next room is tedious. Maybe it's a "take a break" moment, but I prefer to take my breaks by my own. Calming needle game, simple and easy, but very generic. Still, the charm of this series seems to be like that to farewell the year. The transition from day to night was an interesting instance and the final boss, although better looking than the 2014 one, is almost entirely recycled. Other than that, it's cute and maybe worth losing 10 minutes of your time.

Another very short and non-memorable attempt of needle, very generic throughout and with a messy difficulty curve. It is marginally better than 2014 due to the design and the music. No boss this time: only a very short needle experience to chill out for a bit.

Something cute was being attempted here. Ok background that doesn't harm platforming a lot, nice Windows remix music and a boss that makes this feel like a welcome to beginners. Difficulty curve is a mess and there is a painfully precise jump right in the middle which requires you to be frame perfect three times, making the maximum double jump possible and then jump again at the peak to climb a platform. Other than that, the game is forgettable and the boss is badly designed. Maybe it would have been better to have no boss at all.

Unspeakably bad visual design harms the entire platforming gameplay and overall experience, and makes your eyes cry out of pain. I can't understand who would test this game and say: "Yeah, it's ready". That would be more disturbing than the actual game not being tested at all. Nice music, but again, everything gets ruined by a terrible choice.
