Version 1.2 - (05,July,2018)
- all black visuals have been changed and all dark sprites have been brightened (so all your scrub monitors can handle this)
- some sounds were added
- some cool effects were added
- some hard jumps were nerfed

(fun fact: last time I updated this game was the 5. July 2018 and I didnt even know it lol)

Rating includes extra.
Great adventure fangame in the same vein as its prequel, consisting of needle-ish sections with plenty of enemies of all sorts. It's kinda of an expanded version of the first Blocktroid, as it features every single of its enemies, the same bosses and the same stage themes, but being longer, with a wider variety of enemies, mini-bosses, much more elaborate bosses and even a nice achievement system. Nice and cute visuals, nice musics.
The extra stage is a harder recap of the main stages, with one save themed on each half of a stage, and a boss that, while kinda underwhelming compared to the main bosses, is still pretty fun.
It's an even better sequel to an already amazing fangame. Highly recommended.

Rating based on clearing extra. Difficulty rating based on normal game.

Everything that made the original Blocktroid was expanded and many of the mistakes (mostly lighting) were fixed, creating a unique and artistically distinguishable adventure experience. The game is quite good, not giving up on how interactive The Kid is with the enemies and the levels overall. Finally, the adventure has a proper length and the experience is rewarding. Music is quite great (might put some people off but hey, this is a sinister environment), the atmosphere is claustrophobic and enemy designs are worth two thumbs up. Most importantly, boss fights are mostly amazing and the achievement system, though not quite relevant, is a nice addition.

There are still some issues. Both the atmposphere and graphics are recycled from the original game, so it feels more like a remake than a sequel. Also, platforming increased in difficulty by adding generic jumps overall, mostly gates and diagonals, which are basic for any aspiring beginner, but it becomes repetitive at some point. Also, there doesn't seem to be variety in the levels and, ironically, the extra is the ugliest (also the most unfair, because even if you're familiarized with the enemy mechanics by this point, they are placed in weird areas that make it kind of annoying). The whole color palette is, in average, very monochromatic, so stages feel rather repetitive. Water physics are badly done. It is not Water 3. It behaves like normal ground. Granted, the intention is to help the beginner player with a double jump out of the water, but the mechanic of the first jump screws many of your planned jumps since the beginning. Why was this decision taken is beyond me. Finally, some mini-bosses are harder (and better) than the bosses, being a particular case Spider Kid, so difficulty curve, unlike in the previous game, is uneven.

During the climax, I would have appreciated more explosion sound effects for the escape sequence since you're clearly remaking the climactic experience of Super Metroid; these effects could have completely taken from there and they wouldn't be annoying. On the contrary, it feels weird to see everything blowing up without sound; it kills the hype.

Despite these disadvantages, this comes as highly recommended simply because there is heart, effort and originality behind it, and it should be recognized.

A great little adventure game suitable for beginners but with enough interesting aspects to be worth playing even if you're more experienced. It fits Erik's signature style, with the nice art, clean production and focus on whimsical enemies.

Overall it doesn't break any new ground from his other works so much, but refines aspects and keeps an engaging style. The real drawback on this one is the color palette. It's consistent and creates an interesting atmosphere but it does (despite the update) have some visibility issues. This feels like its rarely a problem in the main game but the extra boss definitely still had it. Not enough to really hurt the game but definitely a consideration he's had for future projects (which is always great to see gamemaking as a refinement process).

Overall anyone looking for a 1-2 hour length adventure game should check this out - its fun and has a good amount of variety in its enemies and interactions to be interesting even if you're experienced enough to not find it particularly challenging.

Erik has a really distinguishable style in his games, even without the cute little faces that make appearances on his often wide-range of enemies. Blocktroid 2 continues this tradition and forms a nice little adventure with a variety of enemies, platforming and even achievements!

The platforming is often based around the enemy design and placement, which is often done well. Learning the different attacks of each enemy and how best to play around them is a core mechanic of the game, and with the exception of a few areas where the surrounding space felt a bit tight, this made for some fun gameplay. The actual platforming was alright, although the water confused me a little as it seemed like normal water until you jumped out of it, at which point your jump height reverted to non-water height. This made for a weird mix of water-1 and water-2 which I'll refer to from this point on as water-E. Anyway, this made some of the water segments a bit jarring to play, although in contrast to this the water segments also proved to be one of the more fun areas, with a fish mechanic introduced in which you need to clear the path in-front of it to progress. One save that used 3 fish at once was particularly cool, and I would've liked to have seen more multi-fish saves utilised in creative ways.

There are some mini-bosses and normal bosses. Mini-bosses are generally quite simplistic and feature one or two attacks that you can get a grasp of pretty quickly, whereas the main bosses are a bit more elaborate. The first boss was actually one of my favourites, with the visual design being really neat and the flow feeling well designed. The second boss was okay although it felt less interesting to me, probably due to the nature of how the boss moves around the same all fight. The final boss caused me some frustration due to a couple of unfortunate deaths, one of those being a transition gib where dodging an attack in the middle was followed up by the boss teleporting in the middle. Granted the timing was unfortunate and this won't happen to the vast majority of players. The attacks themselves were fun to dodge though and personal frustration aside it was a neatly designed boss fight to round up the game.

There's also an extra if you need more Erik-goodness, with a short platforming stage and an extra boss (which I first tried, not sure if I got lucky or if it really is just easier than everything else). It's nothing too hard and doesn't take too long, so definitely consider giving it a try once you beat the game!

I understand the game was recently updated to brighten many dark sprites. This was nice to hear, although I felt that sometimes it was still a bit tricky to distinguish things such as blocks, background and water due to the heavy grey-scale colour scheme of the game. I wasn't a big fan of this choice but it suits the atmosphere well so this will really be a hit-or-miss kind of thing I think depending on the player. Perhaps I just generally prefer more colourful and vivid visuals, if nothing else because it reduces the risk of visual confusion.

Ultimately it's a solid adventure game. Nothing too long and nothing too complicated. It has charm to it and has that classic Erik feel you'd expect in any of his games. Well worth a play!

The second part is clearly better than the first, I liked everything except the second boss, he seemed a bit dull to me.
