I was a changed man after playing Vegetable 2.

The sheer beauty of the environments in this game were enough to put it up there with the all-time greats, but this game does more than look great. It plays like a dream, it will take you on an emotional journey unlike anything you've ever witnessed, and it will give you something to think about for a long time.

Each stage is masterfully crafted to the tiniest detail. Aolan, using Game Maker as his canvas, incorporates these works of art in video game form, presenting a variety of platforming challenges for the player to overcome on his journey. Every screen is breathtaking in its novelty and creativity, sometimes I just had to sit back and look at it for a while to take it in - to know what it's like to see an artistic masterpiece first hand. The limitations of Game Maker are really pushed to their ends here, with some amazing technical feats that had my jaw drop. Immersive sound effects, Hyper-realistic face animations and explosions, and a soundtrack that perfectly compliments the atmosphere, to a degree that I had not previously known was possible.

The story in this game is one of the most elegant, intricate and thought-provoking things I've ever seen, in any piece of writing or media. It is the tale of a young vegetable and a dream, an adventure across time and space, and an adversary that will shake you to your core. Upon reaching the final boss encounter, you are given a short yet life-changing exchange of dialogue. I will never forget what was said on that fateful occasion. The writing is unmatched in any medium. You thought Quentin Tarantino was the master of dialogue? Not even close. And the voice acting was absolutely spot-on. I could feel the passion and the emotion coming through the voice. It was unthinkable for me to even imagine that was an actor behind the voice. Needless to say, I was completely immersed all the way to the end. And the ending was truly something special. I dare not spoil it, but after seeing the conclusion of this game I have completely changed my worldview. Humanity as a whole will be shook by this game.

This game deserves to be hung up in the Louvre. I have never seen anything like it before, and I doubt we will ever see another masterpiece as beautiful and inspiring as this. This game will be remembered as one of those most important and influential pieces of modern art. The rating scale of Delicious Fruit is not enough to convey my feelings toward it. Perhaps I cannot even truly appreciate the game yet as the story is so deep and important that it requires a good few years of reflection before you can say "I understand". But for now, I will savor it.

I don't think I need to stress any further how important it is to play this game. It will surely change you as much as it has changed me. We are witnessing history with the release of this game. This is now the post-vegatable2 era. It is impossible to tell what awaits us in this new world. So many new doors have opened with the knowledge bestowed upon us from Aolan. The world is a changed place.

Unironically pretty fun in a way a lot of fangames aren't. If you have 30 minutes to spare and don't mind playing a game that isn't some Objective Masterpiece of Fangame Design, give it a shot.

The final phase of the last boss is kind of bullshit though.

Aolan delivers another game just as charming as the first game, the old-school style is refreshing I have to admit. There's some issues you might find in older games still apparent here, but I found that only adds to the experience funnily enough. I hope Aolan is better than Valve at counting to 3.

I would have to repeat myself from my review of the first game to state why this game isn't of my liking, including level design, bosses and visuals (specifically the color palette), so I'll just mention the pros.

The game made improvements and I am noticing a veeeery tempting affiliation from the maker with Destination. That's a very good sign. Picking up where we left off, the game begins with a hilarious and cute image, as a true sequel should. It is very nice to have Aolan around because he takes us back to what made old-school fangames good (and I will insist on the fact that we owe 90% of all elements to Kayin and his massively underrated original game). It is a trap game, which has never been of my liking, but there is this ONE trap that did make me laugh. Making me laugh is harder than making a stone laugh because I am a boring person, so there. For a change, not all traps are at the end of a save, so thanks for that too. It is a wee bit longer (although still not short for representing the old-school renaissance we really need), and has a couple more gimmicks, standard and overdone, but they are there. It also has the surprise Pikachu face meme and that always adds points by itself because surprise Pikachu face.

There is a platforming section I really dug just before the final boss, and the ending is even sweeter than last time. There is a strong message that we should embrace and, like if we were kids, we're being reminded of simple social principles. And all this from a fangame... Wow. Well, I guess my heart is made of stone.

This is a rare case. If you do have an appreciation for old fangames and can recognize what made them unique and created an era, you MUST play this. It is not optional. You will love it. It's simply not for me, but not because I don't like old fangames (my favorites happen to be mostly old ones), but because I am looking for a full adventure that picks all of those special pieces and become a memorable experience from beginning to end, something on the scale of See the Moon or Enjoy The Game 2, instead of becoming referential and not being fully authentic. The character and the ending, however, are very authentic, and those are the most valuable traits. That's the path to follow.

Yeah, ignore my rating.

The sequel to the fan favourite that became one of the most hotly contested fangame speedruns in the year of 2018, Vegetable is back and better than ever.

Vegetable 2 follows suit with a series of short stages and a boss to match, with a very whimsical and comical touch to each. There's a lot of oldschool adventure vibes going on and whilst the game itself feels non-serious in terms of tone or effort, it stands out with a lot of charm and enjoyability that a lot of fangames today don't have. There's one trap in particular that made me laugh out loud, despite how simple but yet unexpected it was.

Difficulty-wise it feels like a slight step up from the first in the series. Some of the platforming felt a tiny bit more tricky and the last boss has some rather tricky elements to it, although I don't think it ever gets unreasonable, and I suppose for the grand finale of the game it's fitting that it steps up a notch.

A good reminder that games don't have to be serious, super polished or grand in scope to be memorable and enjoyable.
