This is a faithful remaster of the original I Wanna Be The Guy, aiming to balance the spirit of the original game with the desire for consistent physics like the fangames that came after while fixing some of the jank.

This was created using Yuuutu engine in Game Maker 8.2, and has been prepatched with gm8x_fix (https://github.com/skyfloogle/gm8x_fix). The source code has been included (GM 8.2).

(This review about gameplay. About remaster thing itself i can say only that makers do a great job with recreation of original Guy, making it playable by new standarts and i respect them for that)

The remake of famous origin game, I Wanna be the Guy, is really hard to rate objectively. Even despite you fully understand this game is bad (even tho it's still miles better in terms of playability than original), you can't hate it. Realizing this is how it's all started just can't not touch you at least once during playthrough
Over than that, let's speak about aspects of the game. Keep in mind that gameplay mostly not changes from original, so i'm basically speaking about it. Platforming is bad, it's full of unfun traps, it's slow paced in many places with moving objects, it's overused secret paths that places badly and force you to redoing levels over and over again. I'm actually can't say anything good about platforming. Maybe only final Guy levels was quite enjoyable and not bullshit
Bosses was also meh. Most of them patterns-heavy and suffers from slow pace and really strange unintuitive animations and hitboxes. This is mostly apply to every freaking boss, except one. Dracula was probably only boss that i really enjoy, it actually feels like this boss not from this game, because how good it is, lol. Dracula is RNG-heavy boss that balances good between being enjoyable and not simplish. Easily highlight of the game. On the other side, final boss Guy is very annoying to learn, while being hardest boss of the game
This game also has a major aspect - soul that puts in (don't forget i mostly talking about original vision of Kayin). Variety of bosses and areas are actually quite good and you can see maker tries to do something interesting, even despite he doesn't really know how, which at the end makes he just fill his game with traps. Also humor in this game is noticeable thing - occastional voice acting is fun and some of the traps are actually clever (not that many of them). Also in technical sense game flaws perfectly
Overall, this is game with a lot of problems, but i can't say it's hopelessly bad. It's just old game, first of it's genre which gives us wonderful world of unique hard games. It tries it best, ended up being not great and ages badly, but still will be always a legend

What could I say that hasn't been said yet? This is the definitive way to play I Wanna Be The Guy. Despite me wanting so eagerly to like the original version I just can't because of the issues that have been already mentioned both at the reviews for this game comparing it to the original and the original game multiple times.

Difficulty rating based on getting all secrets.

It's nice to finally have the original I Wanna Be the Guy without its dumb glitches or engine. This remastered version ups the game to 50 FPS HD, uses the Yuuutu engine, and fixes many bugs present in the original game, with dipswitches to enable and disable things added for better immersion or gameplay. Without the original game's problems, I Wanna Be the Guy is a fantastic game that, while may have aged poorly in some regards, is still a blast to play from beginning to end. There are also extra unlockables for getting all the secrets, which makes this a nice experience even for those who have played the original. If you haven't played the original IWBTG, this is absolutely the best way to play it and a great adventure from start to finish. I'd say this is a must-play for anyone, really.
