A long term fangame project of mine that took around 1.5 years to complete. Started off as a simple tsutashin parody but turned out to be way different to my original vision (which is not bad!!!). The main challenge with working on a game for this long was dealing with the stress that came from _not_ working on it. You feel a great urge to keep making but you know that you shouldn't even attempt it. I got burned out several times because of this, but to me, it didn't affect the final product. It took longer than I envisioned but I still got to make what I wanted.

So what is this game about? Meeting Miki of course! But you don't know who Miki is. So you work hard to make it to Miki by collecting these weird looking... orbs? They seem to lend you a path to the skies which is mighty ominous, but also drags you towards it!
You traverse through surreal, colourful and perhaps eerie worlds. But in the end it's all for Miki, right?

Expect gimmicks, needle, bosses and a bit of adventure. There's also a 4th area that takes a completely different spin from the fangame formula!

I hope you enjoy!

A moody and atmospheric journey through a large number of short-and-sweet stages, to meet the mysterious Miki. There's a variety of interesting and novel mechanics introduced throughout. And very notably, the difficulty of the game is very friendly relative to many fangames, while still remaining just as interesting. I really enjoy all these aspects of this game.

If this game sounds like your thing, I highly recommend it! I think it's also a good recommendation for newer players, who have a decent amount of skill. As well as for all experienced players. I would also recommend all fangame makers at least watch a playthrough, for inspiration as to how to make interesting obstacles and compelling worlds with a much more approachable difficulty.

Disclaimer: I was one of the playtesters for the game.

Yeah, that's a 10.

Meet Miki is the ultimate harmony between surrealistic art, mysterious atmosphere, and great fangame gameplay. From start to finish, this feels like one big fever dream, like you're truly trapped in a world outside of IWBTG. The visuals are absolutely stunning, the music is wonderfully picked, and the platforming is great. There are gimmicks all throughout that you probably have not seen before, all of which are used in interesting ways that never get too hard. The bosses are also pretty simple yet fun, each being vastly different from the other.

Eater of Dreams is one of my favorite needle games since it steps outside the boundaries of what is normal, and now it seems Meet Miki has become one of my favorite adventure games. I'm telling you now, Riktoi is a maker always worth keeping an eye on, they make bangers.

Highly Recommended.

I Want to Meet Miki is a surreal dreamscape of a fangame, one which traverses plenty of equally atmospheric worlds and sees you meeting some colorful characters such as Moving Potato, weird eyeball thing, and finally the titular Miki. Riktoi's previous game, Defeat the Eater of Dreams, was a game I quite liked but found to ultimately miss the mark of a truly great game thanks to the platforming being mostly bleh. Miki, luckily, takes the solid foundations built in Eater of Dreams and improves upon them while also introducing the secret ingredient: wonderful platforming!

There are four areas, three of which actually fall into the realm of fangame while the fourth is more out there as it's instead a Yume Nikki area. Each area has its own positives and quirks, but my personal favorite is the third area thanks to its being heavily atmospheric and having excellent gameplay all throughout. Even so, each area is well worth your time and I really have no issues at all with any part of the game. Perhaps the closest anything gets to being "problematic" is the climb before you meet Miki which can be a bit irritating at times, but I don't truthfully find it to be all that bad. I also don't like secrets in nearly all forms but I don't fault Miki for that; they don't bring down the enjoyment of the game for me, but I personally would have preferred they be a bit more obvious than they are.

You do not have to find the secrets, but doing so allows you access to the true ending, something I think is well worth your time as it gives access to my favorite part of the game, what I would title The Walk. Some may find the music irritating, but I thought it was absolutely perfect and that it really gave this sense of struggle and beauty which compliments the gameplay itself heavily. This final area isn't particularly complex, all you do is go right through jumping from pillar to pillar while avoiding a rather peculiar boat enemy, but for me it really capped off the game in a way as to make it feel emotionally impactful rather than being just a great game.

All in all, I Want to Meet Miki is one of the best atmospheric fangames out there and is one of the top three games of 2021, as well as one of my personal favorites.

Really enjoyed playing a game like this since they are so few and far between these days. There's a lot of gimmicks in this game, and as such, some of them are hit or miss. Regardless I appreciate the effort put into this as some of them were very creative. I did not collect the secrets, but based on a general clear of the game, it was enjoyable and refreshing to play a real fangame that wasn't plagued by a case of the needle sweats.

Fairly sizable adventure game with a lot of neat ideas. Definitely recommended towards players who enjoy abstract or surreal environments, or players who like diverse, constantly changing gameplay as those are definitely its two strengths, but it is a solid adventure game overall.

The theming is generally very abstract and disjointed by design, making transitions between areas very surprising and certainly giving the player the feeling of being unsure whats coming next. This creates a lot of varied, interesting environments and mixes it up just as often with the gameplay mechanics. There's a ton of detail and depth in these decisions (not like areas are just being slapped together or anything), but it was a bit hit or miss for me. Still, the changeups are frequent and diverse and you'll always encounter something new to experience.

The platforming likewise is very varied, with a lot of different mechanics in shorter bursts. This works well in the game, as the stages are all quite short and the novelty never really wears off. If you like seeing new things, then it has you covered.

The bosses are very concentrated, which is a curious decision and somewhat of a disappointment for me because I happened across most of them early and then they were just... gone. With a taste for nonstandard fights, these were really fun and creative takes on the standard fangame boss formula, thus the disappointment was not with the fights themselves, but just that they stopped happening.

Overall, I enjoyed the majority of it but there were definitely weak spots. I didn't have much appreciation for the 'artistic' aspects as a lot of the visual design doesn't really appeal to my tastes so there was a lot more focus on the gameplay. This was, for the most part, quite good but some segments really just dragged on, or felt like a waste of time then - and as an unfortunate side effect of the ability to go different paths is that the game ended up somewhat anticlimactic to me.
