This review is based on a 100% clear.
Most games I review I based how I rate them off how much of my playtime was spent on various content on the game, at least as a rough guideline for how I view the game overall. For Z3 EX I think this would be slightly unfair seeing as the game is very open and you can access whatever content you want, and realistically most people playing this will not try to 100% it.
The needle content isn't very notable. It's mostly split into two groups. The extra stage is pretty standard stuff, I found it about as enjoyable as the main game needle so while it's kinda forgettable it's not bad. The guest stage needle is nice but it's some of the easiest stuff in the game, and none of them do anything super crazy outside of Gemi and 128-Up involving some triggers.
The avoidances are the definitely the main part of this game. aNobodi's avoidance is the easiest and it's pretty silly, it has some appeal because how ridiculous it is. STAB is also silly, I honestly found it very entertaining though even if it's kinda dumb to play. Higanbana's is quite good but the rotating attack is pretty bad, in my experience it feels like you die to bad luck most of the time there, but it's nothing too egregious. The best one by far is Hamayara which is super fun! It's a very well paced fight with super fun reading and good pacing, I like it a lot and it's one of my favorite things in all of Z3, including the main game.
The hardest thing in the game is EX Entrance, the only one of the EX Boss Rush bosses that actually got finished. This fight was pretty infamous for a while since it was uncertain if it was even clearable. Of course now multiple people have done it but there's a reason it was feared for so long. The fight is incredibly terrible. The beginning has two free patterns, followed by attacks with RNG that is completely unfair. You can play really well on this fight and still die because it's just so ridiculously luck based. It gets boring and tedious very fast. I didn't really dislike my experience but there's no world where I would ever play this again, it's so terrible to play.
Overall Z3 EX is an interesting and very strange game to play, but the openness makes it pretty easy to recommend to try. I would basically never recommend going for 100% because EX Entrance is just not worth it, but the rest was fun time!

Definitely my favorite in the series, very simple platforming again but it doesn't overstay it's welcome. The boss is pretty good, pretty enjoyable barrage attacks, I honestly think it's quite fun and it's also not instagibby which a lot of carnival's avoidances around this time period definitely can be. I think it's worth giving a try.

Mostly enjoyable collab, it's rather old so you get some very retro stuff from both makers. It's kind of interesting, both Carnival and Yoyo are very good makers so you can see some of that shine through here even if it's simple. The platforming is pretty good, my favorite stage is definitely the one that references the LoveTrap cycle stage. The bosses are pretty good except the final boss which is pretty dumb, it seems like you just win if you don't get the yellow attack at the end and it's quite tedious. Still the game overall is quite good.
