A great adventure game that uses an interesting gimmick that I've never seen before. The game has 3 stages and 3 bosses, all of which use the gimmick in creative ways. The game was much harder than I was expecting, but I highly recommend it.

Roll Around brings a very creative gimmick to the table. As the name would suggest, the primary mechanic of the game features The Kid rolling around under gaps, bouncing off pads and batting his way through a world that only a ball-shaped object could survive in.

The game features 3 stages, each with a boss and some new additions thrown in to keep it interesting. I was worried the game might end up getting overwhelming as it plays off a new gimmick so heavily, but it flows very smoothly and never feels like too much. Some saves you really have to plan out your route forward and how to get to your goal, and these always felt really rewarding to me. Getting used to the gimmick initially took me a moment, but after a short while it ends up feeling very natural.

There are some hiccups such as some awkward sections and a post-death boss troll of sorts, but they never broke the flow for me. There's also a potential softlock I was warned about, so do be careful where you're saving near the end of the first stage (as unlikely as it is you'll run into it). The final boss also definitely has some tricky attacks (and feels quite lengthy to boot) so less experienced players may have some trouble here, although design-wise it felt fun and came together very nicely.

Artardss did a great job building an entire game around a fresh new gimmick and came up with something very memorable. If you're looking for something you won't soon forget, you'll be hard pressed to find something more suitable than this.

Really cool game with a main gimmick that allows the player to curl himself into a ball and a bunch of other gimmicks involving this new spherical shape of The Kid. There are two types of saves: The needle ones and the puzzle ones. The needle saves are more straightforward, but involve some really precise maneuvering, while the puzzle saves require more thinking and usually less precision. Both kinds of saves are combined with the wide range of gimmicks to offer a lot of variety through the three stages of the game. Cool visuals, nice musics, low death sound. The only issue I can think of with the platforming is one particular section where the player can be softlocked thanks to the lack of save blockers.
Each stage also has a boss, and the bosses are surprisingly well-made. The first one isn't anything particularly great, but the other two are quite cool, specially the last one, which is filled with smaller details that make for a really lively fight. They are quite RNG-heavy, though.
It's a really amazing and creative game overall. Highly recommended.

It pains me a bit to give this a mediocre rating as its a really original, creative and interesting game with a lot of value. Starting with the good - the gimmick is great, well designed for in most cases and original and most of the games screens are fun.

However, difficulty curve and save balance were very much all over the place. There were a slew of technical issues, most fairly minor - turning the music off only kind of works - anytime a new song gets activated it will re-enable. This means in the first room that a song starts playing you have to turn it off every time as it won't save. The rolling gimmick with certain wall obstacles seems to be align dependent where the right align will just let you hit the wall to no effect. The most significant of which was that using the roll to strike certain objects I was able to do this in the third stage with the pipes such as the room where you start in the water and do the diagonal, unsure if there are other locations causes you to get stuck in the geometry. This wouldn't be so bad but it also causes the game to get stuck, freeze and need to be task manager shutdown.

Design-wise, as I said, much of it was good. However, when it was bad it was really bad and unfortunately these were key times, most notably the first two bosses.

Still, it was a decent game and an ambitious first game. With a bit more polish it could've been amazing. I'd still recommend it to anyone to try, though I did not particularly enjoy it, it definitely has value and I think the gimmick is worth looking at and trying for yourself to see if you will. Updated a bit as it seems some minor changes were made to smooth out some rough parts.
