Long and hard needle adventure game. The game features a lot of gimmicks and an engaging story with lovable characters. gl hf!
2/21/22: Here is a download link to the very first version of the game. There are a few bugs and skips still in it, not much but it's worth linking in case there are any speedrunners interested in running this. https://www.mediafire.com/file/j2wwfjxbp86s42t/Save_My_Boy.7z/file
11/28/20: Ended up updating the game a couple of months after the initial release. It mostly consists of graphics changes as per the feedback I've received, and some other miscellaneous platforming changes. Thanks to everyone for playing or watching my games!

one of my favorite arzztt games, the level design of this game is one of the most ingenious Gimmick Needle's I've seen. it makes good use of the Gimmicks it has.
The soundtrack is just great, a great selection of songs.
The only complaint I have is that some of the Gimmicks are a little confusing or hard to control properly, but I think that's more my problem than the game's.
Recommended for people who like a long Gimmick Needle game.

Finally got around to playing this and after playing all I can really say is that I should have done it sooner. I don't want to go through the whole rigmarole of describing every last gimmick used, but I do want to echo to sentiment that the needle design and overall feeling of this one puts Arzztt into the upper echelon of the most elite fangame designers of the modern era. Playing this makes me think that maybe I should give a few more of Arrzzt's releases a go as before playing this I tended to avoid them as my general impression before now that he was the "VVVVVV-gimmick" guy only, a gimmick that I'm personally not that fond of. In any case, I highly recommend this to anyone who has the skills to play it. I don't think it's quite a "70" on difficulty, but it definitely has an "experienced fangamers ONLY" barrier to entry.

I waited a few months to review this game (totally not because I got sidetracked and forgot or anything, it was absolutely intentional) to see how well it would stand looking back on it. My opinion hasn't really changed since then. Save My Boy is a stellar gimmick-needle/adventure fangame with consistently interesting design and most importantly heavy memorability to it.
One thing I always hope to see in fangames that really makes them stand out to me isn't necessarily just great platforming design, although that's obviously a large factor too. If this game was just 100 rooms of the quality platforming it provides without any of the in-betweens, I don't think it'd stick with me quite as much. All the little things that tie it together, be it the silly little dialogue cutscenes, the quirky boss fights and the zany yet charming little story interspersed between the stages make it feel more like a game. Any fangame that does something like this will always stand out more to me than something that's just a collection of rooms strung loosely together.
And of course given the design quality of Save My Boy is very interesting and carefully constructed throughout just about the entire game, the two of these factors combine to make a great and memorable fangame, and one that I hope people will take ideas from many years down the line to further their own projects.

This has been probably one of my favourite fangames, the needle design throughout the game was great and the maneuvers you had to do felt good. The gimmicks got added slowly through the game so you could get used to them. Your games keep getting better and better.
I lost when the gravity flipper platforms got added.
