Somehow this game has no text reviews, despite starting a new subgenre of needle.

Needle Butterfly has exactly what you'd expect from its successors—a couple one-jump screens flanking the two main screens. The platforming is precise, the difficulty-balance is all over the place, and the jumps aren't particularly creative nowadays, but for 2012, it's pretty interesting.

I suspect the quadruple water invert at the end of the game led to high initial difficulty ratings, which is understandable. Take the difficulty ratings with a grain of salt on either end of the spectrum, as the difficulty of such jumps is highly dependent on controls and knowledge.

Really interesting game, it features a variety of bosses with just one attack which can be surprisingly creative, it's cool seeing the different attacks and the focus on barrage style attacks in a 5/4 layout is something I think a lot of people, especially myself, could benefit from since it's quite a hard platform arrangement. After these 32 fights + the two tutorial ones, there's two proper bosses, one is the secret boss which has pretty crazy RNG but is pretty enjoyable especially because how cool the attacks are, and the other is the final boss, a nearly 15 minute gauntlet of all the attacks you've seen before combined split into tons of phases like a proper emperor miku fight. You are given HP but it's still a really really tough fight, if you don't have a lot of endurance it's gonna take quite a while.

All in all I think this game is fantastic and would recommend it to anyone looking to sharpen their RNG reading skills! Awesome work <3

I feel the opposite of Nick here actually, I enjoyed Pinacol way more. Although, this may just be skill issue for me because there are a ton of parts in this avoidance where I literally couldn't figure out how to read and kind of just prayed not to get hit (Like the infinite jump part). I liked Pinacol more because the patterns were more satisfying and the RNG honestly feels worse in this game than in Pinacol. Pinacol has a downside of having a slow intro, but you don't have to restart as much, while this game has a faster intro but worse RNG so I felt like I had to restart more to get a good start, which I found much more frustrating. I ended up getting lucky with HP and first trying all of the ending by tanking it basically so my personal experience could've been worse.
It just feels like instead of trying to balance the RNG, KOIS felt like giving more HP was the better solution and it definitely wasn't.
This is still fun because of the unique gameplay, but even with the HP it can get pretty frustrating with the RNG.
