For: I Wanna Step Outside the Needle
Really really fun needle game with fun cycles, unique needle, and a few custom gimmicks! I really enjoyed my time playing even if some parts were a bit tricky. If you are a needle fan hungry for a quality needle experience, this is the game for you!

I do wish the visuals stood out a bit more, I think having a budget iwm tileset really holds the game back from being very visually memorable. I thought the songs were good, and they fit each area decently well.

I also do wish there was more done to make the game stand out from something you might find on iwm, most of the game doesn't do enough to separate itself from quality iwm needle. For example, only one of the custom gimmicks was something I hadn't seen in some form in iwm, making it feel like an iwm level because of both the gameplay and visuals.

I also do feel like a bit more could have been done with some of the gimmicks, the purple cherries and refreshing gimmick both coming to mind. For example, purple cherries kinda get used for the same thing the majority of the game, either a circle based thing that might have a hole or might grow or shrink, or cherries that just move on a set path. It would be nice to see more varied uses of the gimmick throughout, such as having it grow-shrink (setting it apart from iwm) or having other unique uses for big cherries firing at the player in interesting ways.

As for the refreshing gimmick, while it was nice, I do wish situations where you might not want the refreshiness would be expanded on a bit more. This was only used once, which can easily be skipped by using the refreshiness on a water from a previous section. I really like situations where you would dodge water and what not, and it would be nice to see that a bit more especially near the end.

Overall, really fun needle game! It shouldn't be too hard, but if you are a beginner, be prepared for a challenge.

On one hand, O is my bestie. On the other hand, I have no clue how many people that silly eye consumed before meeting me. I kinda have to be O's best friend because the only other option is to be O's lunch ;-;

For: SHOOT: Taming the ruins
I really really really wished I could have enjoyed SHOOT! as much as it seems most did :(

(review based on a basic completion)

I don't feel comfortable giving it a rating, as I feel SHOOT is a masterpiece that either I wasn't ready for, or just wasn't for me.

I guess I will start with what I loved and work my way down. The visuals are amazing. I am assuming not all of it was done by Uber because of some sprites I recognized and the varying styles present at once (such as the enemies using a much larger palette than some of the floors) but that doesn't take away from how polished the whole experience is.

Second the movement is really fun. Mainly the rpg lol but zooming in the water with the water gun is quite fun as well.

Thirdly, the bosses were decent. I felt the fire boss dragged for a bit too long, but both fights were decently enjoyable.

Now for the parts I didn't have as much fun with.

I really didn't like the combat in this game. The most common enemy, the capsule looking feller that you have to juggle never felt satisfying to fight. And they are EVERYWHERE... They were really annoying to hit and it felt like luck whether I managed to juggle them, I ended up letting them explode most of the time either because I would fail to juggle them, or just give up and find out how to dodge their explosion from where the kid is. The rest of the combat wasn't that fun either. You just kinda weave in and out of an enemies line of sight, never letting them attack because they can't really be dodged in most cases.

I feel bad because I think this is my lack of skill combined with personal preference, I do think it is a well designed game combat wise.

Second, the weapons. Coming from BONK! (which was one of my favorite fangames to play, i LOVED everything about BONK it was so so so amazing lol), i kinda assumed each weapon would have something unique about them that would really change up how each section was played, kinda like the bonkers in BONK. Combat wise, the weapons didn't feel very distinct. You start out with the kid's gun, which instantly is outclassed by the revolver. That kinda makes sense I guess, as the new weapons are sortof supposed to be the focus, but then the revolver instantly gets outclassed by the rpg. I never had a need to go back to the revolver post rpg, and then you get the water gun which is useless for combat. The railgun comes along and completely outclasses all the other weapons except the two times the spore pals come back.

Movement wise, the rpg and water gun are the only really really impactful ones gameplay wise. The railgun was fine, but it was only used to either move on hazardous blocks, or to slowly jump up a wall. the revolver and kid gun are so useless ;-; like you are literally just using the rpg for movement in most of the game and for combat most of the game, idk.

Third the gameplay. So many sections felt really tedious for no reason. The aiming parts felt like luck to me, it was so hard for me to hit the targets and they didn't really have much gameplay depth other than to learn where the switch targets are, and the just don't miss one the fall. The combat felt tedious and chorelike as mentioned before. Pushing the floaty friends with your rpg wasn't fun at all. And..... aside from combat and movement thats most of the gameplay. I think I was going in expecting a game like bonk, and this is NOTHING like bonk aside from being in the same world.

I don't know if this genre of fangame is for me :(

Again, I think this game is amazing, I could see someone LOVING the precise aiming, combat, and the feeling of getting stronger as you get better and better (and water gun) weapons.

But its not for me. If I were to rate this game I would give it like around an 8.5/10, which seems cruel considering how that's almost a full point lower from the current lowest review.

I guess the takeaway is that this game isn't like bonk (which is a good thing, i want makers to try new things and to mix things up lol). For me it was much worse than BONK, for others it was much better, but that's just because its just such a different game.

Both games are amazing. If you HATED bonk, don't let that stop you from giving this a try. If you loved bonk, I would still recommend it, but it doesn't mean you will love shoot as well.

For: I Wanna Slowly Go Quickly
I LOVED THIS GAME SO SO SO MUCH!!!

Definitely a MUST PLAY!!! The gimmick is super creative, I love the silly ms paint backgrounds, and the bosses are amazing.

The final fight is one of the most unique fangame bosses I have ever fought.

Its not too long nor is it too difficult for anyone who wants a fun fangame experience with a super super neat gimmick.

The only issue I have is the main tileset being the default guy rocks and guy spikes. That is a bit of a small nitpick though, as the gameplay was super fun and again, the gimmick is amazingly fun to use!

For: Boshy Story
Boshy Story is an experience.

(Rating based on easy mode)

Stage 1:

Introduces the terrible physics engine via the use of glitchy blocks and spikes.

I have no clue where to start. All of the sprites look terrible, either the maker didn't know how to import sprites correctly or used images from google. I can't tell which one it was but tbh it is likely both.

Rubbing against the blocks refreshes your jump and makes this microwave sounding noise. I think its supposed to be the landing sound constantly playing? idk.

The controls are shift to go to the main menu, and d to shoot and f to jump. I don't think you can change them and they are awful lol.

The game saves the ENTIRE ROOM and not your character's position. This is horrible, as it means it is incredibly easy to softlock. If you save as you are falling near spikes, you likely have to start the whole game over again. Much of the challenge in the platforming segments comes from either finding which blocks are fake and where the invisible blocks are and avoiding saving as to not softlock yourself.

If you choose to play, constantly back up your saves as it is so so so easy to get stuck.

Boss 1: The Guy

An image of "The Guy" jittering around shooting spikes at you. Incredibly luck based, and there is SO much screenshake. bleh.

Stage 2:

Introduces the gravity flip, however for some reason the up gravity is MUCH harder to jump with. It maxes your upwards speed if you aren't jumping for some reason making some jump refresher sections an absolute nightmare.

Also I forgot to mention, half of the time when you jump on the easy mode blocks they instantly kill you. No clue why that happens.

Boss 2: The Child

An image of some random kid's head that teleports around in a way that definitely doesn't look intended and shoots lazer pngs at you. I don't know who this kid is, I am assuming it is the maker but I could be wrong lol.

Stage 3:

A bit short, you just climb up as some blue blocks rise slowly.

The last screen is a bit odd, idk how to describe it but you basically are saving as you dodge some random blue blocks, each time you save saving their position. When they are all gone, you do this 10 second drop thing.

Boss 3: Solgyrn

There is no save before this fight for some reason so you have to do the drop AND watch the cutscene each time you fight it.

Terrible boss, either bugs out and does the same attack for a minute or disappears. The time I beat it was because it didn't stop doing the first attack, the one attack you can actually shoot it.

Stage 4:

Forgettable and you can skip most of the first screen by going to the far right. There is a massive pac man doing something? This area seems to be trigger - focused and it is not fun at all.

Boss 4: Pac Man

Nothing boss. Summons in ghosts which hop around, and sorta follows you until you kill it. The arena is huge with a ton of traps and what not.

Stage 5:

Another nothing stage. Last section has some turrets which you need to kill to unlock the end, and if you miss some of them because you didn't KNOW you had to kill them you are softlocked lol. Also no save before the boss so have fun doing 30 seconds of nothing before having a chance to fight it.

Boss 5: Sonic

Most complex fight and also the hardest. Its really bad, I am quite tired writing this but like imagine the worst take on sonic from boshy you can think of.

This was where my journey ended. I have no clue how much is left, but I don't have the strength to find out. Solgryn promised he would return after the fight, so maybe he does return? Maybe it has 12 worlds just like boshy. Maybe it ends after Sonic.

The world will never uncover the mystery of boshy story. But if for some reason a brave soul is able to best the wicked sonic, then please let me know I am like super super curious.

I can't justify giving this game a 0.0 or something because it had a lot of heart put into it.

Behind every strange boss and every misaligned jump refresher was a starry eyed kid who wanted to make the next boshy.

After all, the file isn't called boshy story. It is called "boshy2," it seemed like it was intended to be a sequel to boshy.

I am too tired to reread this review, but boshy story deserves a second chance. i also really want to know how it ends like does solgyrn come back?!?!?! is there a good stage waiting just behind the dumpster fire that is sonic?

We may never know :(
