The platforming is pretty boring, but it's inoffensive and short enough that it doesn't matter much. The boss is a Sans avoidance which means you have to dodge inside a small box while avoiding orange (move through) and blue (stand still) lines. It is mostly okay and has a couple fun attacks, but the hitboxes are horribly screwed up for some reason, and what I believe to be the final attack (because I did not actually beat this) is incredibly difficult for all the wrong reasons. The hitboxes are consistent with the sprites in terms of size and shape, but from what I can tell, they often become desynced with the sprites which will cause you to CONSTANTLY die to what appears to be nothing. Regarding the final attack, you need to dodge through orange and blue lines along with gate jumps of varying heights (all of which are pattern) while a ton of horrible RNG flies out from the top corners that will constantly block the gaps you want to go through and snipe you while you're forced to stand still. It also goes on for way too long.

This game could've been fun with some proper testing, but it turned out to be a mess that is not worth playing due to the awful RNG and broken hitboxes. Do not recommend.

Most of the platforming is aight with a few weirdly hard jumps or saves scattered throughout while still being relatively enjoyable. The final stage platforming, however, feels mostly awkward and is a bit hard to figure out where to go. And I didn't really enjoy what I played of the avoidance. Note that I did not beat it because it has a bit of rough RNG along with required dodging ON LADDERS and then forces you to do 21 moving gate jumps.

Probably wouldn't recommend, but I guess the avoidance is at least kinda interesting since it makes use of ladders???

This is an unexpected one. This is the kind of game that makes a terrible first impression and is presented in a way to get lost in the shuffle but I was impressed by what it offers.

For the terrible first impression - The name is gibberish, the file is 2.5mb and the game screen is non-standard size (640x640) and the title says 'Piece of Shit' in apples. However, there's a surprising amount of depth in a gimmick needle game beyond that, which makes me wonder why the maker chose to give this first impression.

Production wise, its pretty minimal. Simplistic but clean tilesets make the visuals fine, though there's no flair anywhere. The tiny filesize is representation of the sound assets which are... the jump sound, the shoot sound, the death sound and the death music and thats it. So, if you're going to play this, have your own music.

This is a gimmick needle game with a side of puzzle. For reference, I didn't clear every stage, but did complete most of them and tried the rest. There's a lot of interesting gimmicks here and they are mostly well executed. The general gameflow is awkward, you get a hub with 11 portals to the stages. There is no warp out of a stage (as far as I could find) but it tracks completion in a separate file so you can just start a new game to go back out without losing overall progress (and theoretically have 3 saves in different stages progressing independently) which is an interesting approach.

It's worth checking out if you like this, as there's some interesting puzzle gimmicks (one of which is extremely similar to Ponder blocks, so I'm a fan of that) and platforming gimmicks to try out. Some of them are total whiffs in my opinion, the cube looking stage in the screenshots while interesting feels like a really huge downgrade from the cubes seen in cubetech/qoqoqo300/summer feast needle because of the super awkward perspective that you seem to be locked into. Likewise, the shadow stages felt kind of janky and tedious and I wasn't a fan of those. My favorites to recommend would be the puzzle (blocks) and the big map (needle maze style) which is an expansive 5x5 single mazy room.

In general the gimmick usage was cool, though there were definitely skips around the place. The platforming is probably where it falters a lot - its purely 32px everywhere and there's a lot of repetitive generic jumps throughout while being a sizable putoff to me didn't stop me from enjoying many parts of it.

Again, this is probably one that will easily get lost which is why it surprised me and I felt the need to write the extensive review for people to take a look at it. I definitely recommend trying it out to see which stages tickle your fancy. I don't think the full clear would be that appealing to many, but there's a lot of interesting stuff here if you like gimmick needle with mixed puzzle elements.

For: Not Another VVVVVV Game
A new favorite.

Dethroning Kill the Guy, Boshy, the drastically underrated Diverse, and Marathon itself regarding the VVVVVV gimmick (QUT sucks), arzztt delivered this new fangaming piece of Western legend to the community exactly one day before my birthday, perpetually crowning himself as the king of this subgenre, if it could be considered as such. Considerable needle skill is required (shockingly much less than in Chill Needle 2, which is underrated in difficulty), but following Cavanagh's original vision from beginning to end and incorporating the standard fangame engine to the formula, he creates an intensely exciting and mostly inventive adventure game for the kid with brief comedy instances for lighting up your weekend. You're guaranteed at least two hours of creative level design.

There is no difficulty curve intended; rather, it is constant since the beginning, incorporating different gimmicks in each of the stages. It is quite messy, but doesn't harm gameplay significantly, although it is puzzling that the last stage had, in my opinion, some of the easiest screens of the entire game. However it is the spirit that counts, and it was greatly achieved here.

Grudges? Well, yes, since no game is perfect (maybe). The first one is the aforementioned diffiulty curve. The second one is that the volume is awfully designed, and I don't use this word lightly. Music can barely be heard, and sound effects are loud. 40% of VVVVVV's experience was its soundtrack, which is faithfully used here, no remixes. In order to appreciate the music, I had to raise the volume too much, and whenever I tried a "secret" (remember that if you look for secrets, arzztt hates you), my eyes would be shockingly pierced to the point of pain. The red and blue coins, which are implemented greatly for variety and fair challenge, sounded too loud also, as well as shooting. This harms the ENTIRE game. All the way through it. Finally, there are screens in stage 2 of questionable difficulty, and I have to highlight the Tax Break screen. REVIEW EDIT REQUESTED BY ARZZTT: A corner is actually not required before the ending of a long save in that screen. However, I saw no other way to pull off the jump due to the screenwrap. This corner, suspiciously, does not have the ussual response others do, so I was led to believe I was actually doing it the right way. That screen took more than 10% of my deaths, but well, that's on me.

Despite this being a good game, I do think that arzztt surpassed himself more recently with Chill Needle 2, which is amazing, and paradoxically, even if it is not entirely a VVVVVV game, it does contain the best VVVVVV fangame experience you will ever have. Yes, this game is a revolution in that department, but it is also the foundation, and Chill Needle 2 took it to another level using the same structure of featuring 3 stages for then combining them into one unforgettable challenge.

Note also that we have a contender for the best creator of Clear Screens ever, and since you won the Run the Simulation race, I sincerely hope you saved your fabricated triumph screen for your next game, because if you do use it for your next game, I will also laugh forever. Hard.

P.S. Also, unlike Chill Needle 2, this game doesn't insult you if you look for secrets.
